"You've got to be kidding me," I murmured, I'm so going to fail that test.
"Just study Anna," Miss Evans said not bothering to raise her head from what she was doing.
"JuSt StUdY aNnA," I mimicked her under my breath.
"I heard that," I heard her say amusedly as I went out of the classroom.
Guess I'll have to beg for her help later on, even so, I think I won't make it, also I don't want her to think I'm just plain stupid, which I am but c'mon let's not go there.
Seriously tho who invented calculus and why are we learning it at school?
"Anna," I heard as I was walking down the corridors. "Can we talk now?" Jenny asked in a rather calm voice.
"Uh, sure." I think jumping out of a window and breaking a leg is definitely more tempting than having this conversation. I don't really want to deal with this right now but I guess I have no other choice.
I looked up as we walked outside, the sky was really cloudy and it looked like it was about to rain anytime soon, my British soul is more than happy to welcome sweet and cosy winter.
Jenny sat at one of the benches making me sit beside her. "So..." She started. "Are you going to tell me what's your relationship with Miss Evans?" She said looking me dead in the eyes.
"There's no relationship between me and Miss Evans," I said averting my eyes from her heavy glare trying my best to not stutter or sound nervous, technically we aren't really in a relationship so why am I so nervous?
"Anna, you don't have to lie to me," she looked at me with a serious expression. "I see how you two look at each other."
"Jenny, I'm not lying, Miss Evans is a teacher, she could lose her job because of it and as much as I like her I understand I have no right to ruin her life and career," I confessed with a sigh.
"So you do like her," she murmured. "I understand," she said in a much clearer tone. "You really don't have to worry about me, I have no desire whatsoever in telling anyone, although I like you a lot I'm in no position to demand you to like me back either, I truly want you to be happy and if pursuing Miss Evans makes you happy then that's alright by me. It's not like I didn't realise that earlier too." She gave me a sad smile. "But please don't use me to make her jealous again."
I sighed giving her a side hug. "I'm really sorry about that."
"You're such an idiot, how did you get her to like you?" She asked now in an amused tone making my face go bright red.
"She doesn't, I mean... You think she likes me back?"
Before Jenny could say anything I heard a well recognizable whale scream coming from the distance, of course as a fella whale I returned the scream to a clumsy running Soph, have you seen a kakapo running? Please do, that's Soph.
"Bitch I was looking for you!" Soph said panting as she reached our bench. "Sorry to interrupt the love birds but I have news, great news."
"Great news?" She just nodded. "Stop with the suspense idiot just tell us already."
"All the seniors are going on a field trip!" She said excitedly clapping her hands.
"You got me, you almost made me think maybe Mrs Olson had fallen down the stairs but that's fine too," I said sarcastically making Soph laugh scandalously. The world can't take the two of us, the immaturity is just unbearable when we unite.
"How come you two didn't know? The official announcement was two weeks ago," Jenny said finally making herself present in the conversation. "We're visiting an aquarium."
At that moment Soph and I looked at each other, we didn't have to say anything, we both knew we pay no attention whatsoever to what the teachers say at the start and end of each lesson most of the time.
"And when is that?" I asked getting up as the bell started ringing.
"This Friday," she answered getting up as well.
"I'm only going if it's free," I whispered to Soph as we walked to our next class after bidding goodbye to Jenny.
"It's like 10 Georges plus Miss Evans is going," she said nudging me.
"I'm going," I said immediately. "Wait how do you know that?"
"I don't but she's the only teacher that scares all of us to the point of us behaving when she's around so of course they'll bring her," she said matter-of-factly.
"Your logic is brilliant," I said getting excited but I'll ask her later anyway, I'm not taking the risk of spending 20 chicken nuggets to see fish swimming around for the nth time.
The rest of the day passed really slowly, mainly because I was so excited to meet Daniella and ask her about the field trip, spending a whole day in her company, even if it's with around 50 more people feels like a dream. If I'm lucky enough maybe I can sneak in some alone time with her.
After I was done changing from PE, and let me tell you I have never changed clothes so fast in my life I almost flew to her classroom, I didn't knock I just came right in seeing her seated on her desk reading a book.
"Rude," she said simply.
"So," I started, "Have you heard about the senior's field trip to an aquarium or whatever?" I asked positioning a chair near her desk trying to not ask her directly if she was going or not.
"Yes," she said raising one eyebrow.
"You're going, right?" I asked trying to play it cool so she doesn't realise how desperate I am.
"Unfortunately," she sighed rolling her eyes. "Are you?"
"If you're going then I'm obviously going," I smirked making her roll her eyes again.
"How about you don't and you stay in school studying for your next test?" She said sarcastically crossing her arms with a fake serious expression.
"How about you give me a hand with it again?" I mimicked her tone crossing my arms as well.
"You're asking for too much Anna, I can't be always giving you this kind of special treatment."
"Special treatment to someone special, it's more than fair," I said resting my chin on my hand, "Also you know I can't do it on my own," I sighed as I watched her put her stuff inside some drawers and tidying her desk for the day.
"You'll have to learn to, you're 18 Anna," she said simply getting up and walking to the door.
"The bell hasn't rung yet," I shouted from my sitting position quickly getting up and following her down the corridors.
"So? There was no one there," she answered as I picked up her pace.
"Ouch, I was," I said resting a hand on my chest pretending to be hurt. "But I'll forgive you if you take me home."
"I don't know if your dumb brain has figured it out yet but Jenny is on our ass so no," she snickered.
"Uh about that, I kinda have," I blurted out making her stop on her tracks and look at me with a rather surprised expression, we were already in the parking lot merely meters from her car "We already discussed it actually."
"What?" She snapped in a whisper.
"Don't freak out! I'll explain it but you'll have to promise to listen until the end, alright?" I asked her already regretting bringing this up.
"Get in the car," she said simply unlocking it and seating on the driver's seat. She drove to a deserted target parking lot, probably so she could scream at me without worrying if someone would listen. "Talk."
"She saw us dancing on Homecoming," I murmured making her face pale up instantly. "Just listen," I interrupted her before she could say anything. "She asked what was up and I swear I didn't tell her anything she just found out everything on her own, also don't blame it all on me, you have to control your jealousy because it's pretty obvious too."
"Ugh, what am I going to do?" She murmured to herself bringing her hands to her face.
"I don't think she'll tell anyone, she has nothing on us," I said trying to calm her down.
"How can you be so sure?" She asked sarcastically, "she likes you."
"She's very smart but she's very kind too, and because she's smart and kind I'm sure she won't tell on us, if she does she'll know I knew she was the one to tell and I would hate her, obviously that's not what she wants, also she just thinks we just have a crush on each other, she doesn't know about the kisses or anything."
"Even so we should keep an eye on her," she sighed. "I didn't sign up for this shit."
"It just makes it more exciting," I chuckled.
"Being fired is not exciting Anna," she said rolling her eyes.
"I'll hire you as my personal calculus teacher." I half-joked. "I'll pay you with my love."
"Love won't get food on my cabinet," she sighed again turning on the engine and driving out of the parking lot.
"Well, you did end up bringing me home." I chuckled as she stopped in front of my house. "Goodbye kiss?" I said turning to her and puckering my lips.
"You're getting too impudent," she said pushing my face away with her hand.
"I don't know what that word means, I'll assume is sexy," I joked making Daniella roll her eyes amusedly.
"Just go," she said basically pushing me out of her car.
Fast-forwarding to Friday because the author is lazy and this is a special chapter anyway and I know what yall are really looking forward to see.
Today was finally the day of the field trip and I was packing my bag with food, the food in those places is expensive as'f and tastes awful so Soph and I are getting ready for a hunger apocalypse.
She was going to pick me up today so I don't show up late as always, let's just hope her car doesn't die on the way again, it would be hilariously ironic.
Just when I finished getting ready I heard her honking outside about 15 minutes earlier than we had planned.
"Why so early?" I asked as I got inside her almost decomposed car.
"I was scared maybe it would die in the way to school," she said in her usual chirpy mood.
"Girl that's what I was thinking too," I laughed. "Listen, you have to either save money to fix this old rusty tin or to buy a better car because this bitch is almost dead."
"I'll do that after saving money to buy those new glossy Louis Vuitton heels."
"I want to watch you push this car with those new Loi Vutan heels then," I teased.
When we got to the school parking lot some of the other seniors were already there, Miss Evans car was there as well, I'm impressed she's so early but again she's a teacher so it's only normal she would come earlier, as we parked the car I could see she was near the bus talking to some of the other teachers that would accompany us, our old rag English teacher and Mr Olson our PE teacher, Soph and I groaned at the same time as we saw him.
"I can't believe he's coming, let's ditch," Soph said groaning again.
"No way, I paid already." Plus Daniella is going, I can't miss that.
After some time more students showed up and we could finally go into the bus, Daniella would look at me from time to time, every time she looked I was already looking at her, my eyes never actually left her.
I'm full-on creepy mode.
Unfortunately, the teachers seated on the front and Soph and I were almost on the back of the bus, Soph's insistence of course. The ride was pretty boring most of the time, 5 minutes after the ride started Soph was already snoring, literally drolling with her mouth open, she looked like a fish... Obviously I took a photo, obviously I'll use it as blackmail.
When we were halfway there and I was almost falling asleep as well one of the kids apparently was getting sick so old English rag told him to sit on the front with her...
Jackpot!
I went to the front as well trying my best to fake a carsick face, "Uh Mrs I'm not feeling good as well," I said wrapping my hands around my abdomen.
"Oh, darling do you want a pill? Sit down with Mr Olson," she said searching her bag for the pill, at that moment I really felt sick, no way in hell I'm seating with that ogre.
"Uh, I'd be more comfortable if I seated with Miss Evans," I said eyeing her, she was looking at me amusedly.
"Yeah, okay," Old rag said giving me the pill.
As I seated beside her I heard her murmur, "smooth."
"That's my best quality," I murmured back.
It was heaven, even though we didn't talk during the ride every time there was a bump in the road or the bus had to do a tight turn our shoulders and legs would touch. Most of the time I had to repress the need to lay my head on her shoulder.
When we got there I didn't want to get up but Daniella almost shoved me out of it. Soph was still sleeping in her seat so I had to go there and wake her up.
"Oh so many hot guys," I whispered in her ears.
"Where?!" She asked immediately waking up and wiping the drolling trail out of her mouth.
"There," I said pointing outside through the window to a group of middle-aged men.
"You disgust me."
After we got in the aquarium we watched the fish swim, pretty interesting if you ask me.
I basically went everywhere Daniella went, she liked stingrays apparently, she took various pictures of them which I find very cute. Soph just followed me around taking pictures of me and herself with the fish doing weird poses, obviously, we weren't really that interested in them.
Then we went to the souvenir shop, my penny-pincher ass wasn't planning on buying anything until I saw a cute stingray plushie, it wasn't too expensive so I took it.
"Why did you buy that?" Soph asked arching one brow as we seated down to eat our food.
"I thought it was cute," I said simply, actually I'm planning on giving it to Daniella. I just had to get her alone, also I had to get Soph distracted. "I'll be right back, I'm going to the bathroom real quick," I said getting up and going before she could answer me.
"Anna?" Jenny gasped as I touched her arm to get her attention. "You scared me."
"Sorry about that," I said amusedly. "Can I ask you a favour?"
"Sure," she said already knowing where I was going with this.
"Can you get Soph distracted for a few minutes?" I pleaded.
"Alright," she laughed. "What's the plan?"
I told her exactly what to do and she agreed to it pretty quickly, she didn't even ask me why I wanted her to distract Soph, I think she already had an idea of what I wanted to do.
I don't know why I trust so much in her, I just feel like I should.
"Were you taking a shit or what?" Soph almost screamed as I went back.
"Idiot, don't say it that loud," I said giving her a punch. "And no, the bathroom had a huge line."
"You went away running, I could have gone with you, I have to retouch my makeup," she said using her phone as a mirror.
Before I could answer Jenny appeared as we planned. "Sophie, can we talk for a while?" she said with a sad expression not looking at me, acting skills on point.
"Yeah sure," she said reassuringly getting up and going with Jenny giving me a whathaveyoudone look.
This is my chance, I quickly picked the small plushie as soon as they were out of sight and went looking for Daniella, I found her way too easily, she was looking at the stingrays again.
It was a darker room and everyone else was eating so the room was hopefully deserted.
"Hey," I said approaching her holding the plushie behind my back.
"Shouldn't you be eating?" She answered finally taking her eyes off the animal.
"Shouldn't you?"
"Later," she said simply gazing at the gracefully swimming animal again.
"Do you like stingrays that much?" I asked laughing a bit at her cute interest in it.
"Yes, I think they're really beautiful." She was still looking at it.
"I can see that, you're not giving me any attention," I said pouting even though she wasn't looking at me.
She let out a cute chuckle as she finally looked at me, "what do you have behind your back?" She asked amusedly.
"Something for you," I smirked.
"Let me see," she said giving me her full attention.
"Oh so now you're giving me attention," I said laughing at her curiosity.
"Come on," she pushed me lightly.
"Close your eyes," I whispered. "I won't do anything I promise," I said picking up her hand.
She was a little reluctant at first but in the end she was just way too curious so she closed her eyes anyway and I slowly placed the plushie on her hand, I took the opportunity to stroke her hand a little, so fucking soft.
She squeezed it a little slowly opening her eyes, "Anna," she said with the cutest smile I have ever seen in my LIFE. "You didn't have to." I had to, look at that smile, I must protect it!
I know this isn't the place to go for a kiss, it's just way too dangerous so I just kept my distance, her smile right now was satisfying enough.
I realised it didn't really matter if we kissed or not, these little things are what really make a difference in the end.
"I did it because I wanted to," I murmured as some students came into the room.
"Thank you," she said in a sweet tone putting it in her purse and walking away back to the other teachers.
Mission completed.
