The egg trembled.
Rei watched in silence, his sharp eyes fixed on the cracks forming across the shell. It had been days since he took the egg, nurturing it with his energy, letting it absorb the essence of pokemon corpse.
He had been patient.
And now, it was time.
A faint chirp echoed as a tiny beak broke through the shell. Pieces of the egg crumbled away, revealing a small, fluffy bird with black-and-white feathers.
A Starly.
It blinked its big round eyes at Rei before chirping weakly.
Rei let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding.
"…Welcome to the world, Starly."
From the moment it hatched, Rei knew Starly was different.
Its blue glow had now become dark blue meaning its potential had increased.
It was small, barely larger than Rei's hand, but it was fierce.
The first thing it did after regaining its strength? Peck Rei's hand.
Hard.
Rei smirked at the little bird's spirit.
"You're eager to fight, huh?"
The Starly fluffed its feathers, chirping proudly.
"…Then let's train."
Rei had one rule for training.
Survival through combat.
If Starly wanted to become strong, it had to fight real battles.
So they went out into the wild, searching for opponents.
The first battle was against a Wurmple.
The bug Pokémon hissed, shooting sticky threads toward Starly.
"Dodge."
Starly, still clumsy, tried to take off but got tangled. It screeched, struggling.
Rei didn't help.
"Break free," he ordered.
Starly flapped frantically, then pecked at the thread, snapping it.
"Now attack."
With a sharp chirp, Starly launched forward, beak glowing faintly as it slammed into Wurmple.
One hit.
Victory.
Stronger Foes. And so a couple months pass. It has been 1 year and 3 months since Rei got lost in the forest.
Over the weeks, Starly's battles became more intense. It's body also grew a lot bigger.
From Wurmple to mankey, then to Bidoof—each battle made it faster, sharper, and stronger.
Rei's power allowed Starly to recover quickly, pushing past its limits without breaking.
But the true test came when they encountered a Fletchinder.
The fire bird was faster. Stronger. Its body burned with heat, its wings slicing through the air like blades.
Starly flapped its wings, trying to match its speed—but it was slower.
A blur of orange, then—
BAM!
Starly was sent tumbling across the ground, its small body covered in burns.
Rei stood still, watching.
Starly struggled to its feet, its body trembling.
It turned to look at Rei, as if asking—what now?
Rei narrowed his eyes as he input energy into starly's body.
"…Do you want to give up?"
Starly froze. Then—it screeched.
Loud. Defiant.
It spread its wings wide, determination burning in its eyes.
"…Then fight."
Evolution
Fletchinder lunged.
Starly rushed forward, dodging at the last second. Its body blurred, moving faster than before.
Then—
A sudden glow engulfed Starly's body.
Rei's eyes widened slightly.
It was happening.
Feathers stretched. Wings expanded. The small, weak Starly grew before his eyes.
In mere moments—
Staravia stood in its place.
With a sharp cry, it flapped its wings once—then blasted forward with newfound speed, slamming into Fletchinder with incredible force.
BOOM!
The fire bird hit the ground, dazed.
Victory.
Rei smirked "…Not bad."
As Rei was congratulating Starly on his evolution. He was attacked by a tiny fletchling. Rey quickly dodge and caught the bird.
'Huh quite cute' Rei then let it go free.
