A crimson glow flickered in the evening air.
The sound of crackling embers and shifting coal filled the small training field Rei had set up. Rockruff's paws landed heavily on the scorching path, its breath coming out in sharp pants as it forced itself forward.
Rei stood at the edge of the burning track, arms crossed, watching intently.
"Again." His voice was calm but firm.
Rockruff let out a short, determined bark and kept moving.
The training was brutal—but necessary.
Recently, Rei had noticed something unusual about Rockruff.
Its fire affinity was strong. Not enough to be a true Fire-type, but far greater than what an average Rockruff should have.
On the other hand, its Rock-type potential was somewhat lacking.
That explained why the Alliance Scanner had marked it as a C-tier Pokémon. It was caught between two natures, unable to fully develop either.
For most trainers, that would be a flaw. But for Rei? It was an opportunity.
"Tch." Rei clicked his tongue, watching as Rockruff stumbled slightly on the burning coals. Its paws were tough, but the fire was still painful.
Rei had two goals for this training.
1. Strengthen Rockruff's natural endurance—to make it stronger than a typical Rock-type Pokémon.
2. Trigger its dormant fire potential—to evolve it into something beyond a normal Lycanroc.
That's why he had started feeding it specialized Pokéblocks.
Every morning and night, Rockruff consumed a mix of Rock-type pokeblocks, packed with minerals to strengthen its bones and durability and Fire-type pokeblocks, designed to enhance its heat resistance and latent fire energy.
If Rei's theory was correct, then eventually... Rockruff wouldn't just evolve. It would mutate.
It would become something unique.
The burning track stretched across the training field. It was made of hot coal, with flames licking at the edges.
Rockruff had already run five full laps. Its breathing was ragged. Its legs trembled. But it refused to stop.
Rei gave a small nod of approval.
"You're getting used to it."
Rockruff growled, tail wagging weakly. It was exhausted, but also proud.
That was good. Rei wasn't just training its body—he was training its will.
But there was still something missing.
"Not enough." Rei murmured. "We need more."
And so Rei and Rockruff continued training. Rei even join it in running accross the firery rocks. After each traing they both would improve and their determination is strengthen.
After the training, Rei notice something on his phone. It was an invitation by the Alliance to help them in stopping the civil war of the mankey clan.
The dense forest shook with the sounds of battle. Furious cries filled the air as two factions of Mankey and Primeape clashed violently. The ground was torn apart by their raw power, the trees bore scars of their rage, and the atmosphere was thick with dust and aggression.
Rei stood atop a sturdy branch, arms crossed, calmly observing the chaos.
This was a civil war between two factions of the Mankey Clan—one led by a Primeape with scars across its chest, who wanted the clan to remain in the deep forest, and another led by a larger, more muscular Primeape, who wished to expand their territory into human lands.
It was a fight for dominance.
And it was getting out of control.
Normally, Rei wouldn't care.
But the Alliance had personally requested his help, offering valuable rewards.
The constant battles had started disturbing nearby towns, destroying crops, and even attacking passing trainers. If this continued, the Alliance would be forced to exterminate the entire clan.
Rei was here to stop that from happening.
Before arriving at the battlefield, Rei had met with the small squad the Alliance had assigned to assist him.
1. Marcus – A veteran fighter with a Hitmonchan as his main Pokémon. He specialized in close-combat battles and was skilled in handling aggressive Pokémon.
2. Elise – A young researcher focusing on Pokémon behavior, particularly fighting types. She had a Breloom trained in pressure techniques.
3. Darren – A defensive specialist, carrying a Hariyama and a Toxicroak. His job was to subdue the most aggressive Pokémon.
The plan was simple—locate the two leaders, defeat them, and force the Mankey Clan into submission.
However, it wouldn't be that easy. The moment they entered the battlefield, they were spotted.
A group of Mankey turned toward them, baring their fangs. Their eyes were filled with uncontrolled rage, and they launched themselves forward in a wild frenzy.
"Looks like we don't have time for negotiation," Marcus muttered, cracking his knuckles. "Alright, let's do this!"
Rei didn't hesitate.
"Staraptor—Air Slash!"
His massive Staraptor screeched through the sky, its wings slicing through the air as blades of energy rained down on the incoming Mankey.
The attack sent multiple Mankey flying, but more kept coming.
Darren's Hariyama slammed its hands together, sending a shockwave that forced some of the Mankey back. Elise's Breloom used Spore, causing several of them to collapse into sleep.
But the numbers were overwhelming.
"We need to take out the two leaders!" Elise called out. "They're the key to stopping this fight!"
Rei's eyes locked onto the two Primeape, who were still fighting each other while their subordinates battled.
"Staraptor, we're going in."
His Staraptor let out a fierce cry and shot forward, cutting through the battlefield like a storm. The scarred Primeape noticed Rei's approach first.
With a roar, it ripped a tree branch from the ground and hurled it at Staraptor.
Rei barely gave the attack a second thought.
"Dodge and Brave Bird!"
Staraptor twisted mid-air, dodging the massive branch with ease, then dove down like a meteor, cloaked in blue flames.
BAM!
The attack landed squarely on the Primeape's chest, sending it crashing into the dirt.
The larger Primeape noticed this and immediately launched a Counter attack—its fists glowing red as it tried to strike Staraptor.
But Staraptor was faster.
"Close Combat!" Rei commanded.
WHAM!
A flurry of beak and claw strikes landed against the Primeape, forcing it back. The force of the attack caused the air around them to tremble.
Then, suddenly—
BOOM!
A surge of energy erupted from Staraptor's body.
Rei's eyes widened as he felt the change.
"It's happening."
Staraptor's body glowed with power, its muscles tightening, its wings extending even further. A new energy flowed through it.
It had finally broken through to Gym Level.
Its aura was now overwhelming.
Even the Primeape paused, recognizing the shift in power.
Rei smirked.
"Let's end this. Aerial Ace!"
With newfound strength, Staraptor shot forward in a blur of motion. The two Primeape barely had time to react before they were struck down, sent skidding across the battlefield.
Their followers, seeing their leaders defeated, froze in place.
The battle was over. The remaining Mankey and Primeape stopped fighting.
With their leaders defeated, they were forced to accept Rei's presence and acknowledge his strength.
Marcus and the others quickly helped organize the remaining clan members, negotiating a new balance of power.
The war had been stopped.
The Alliance representatives thanked Rei personally, handing him his reward.
After taking the generous reward, Rei was already thinking about his next goal.
With Staraptor now at Gym Level, he needed to focus on his next Pokémon. Maybe a mankey ?
