The moonlight bathed the forest in a soft glow as Lycanroc moved silently through the trees. He had left the farm for a late-night walk, his mind still preoccupied with what he had seen the night before.
That beautiful Zoroark.
Her sharp crimson eyes. The way her silver mane shimmered under the moon. How she had disappeared without a word after their first encounter.
Lycanroc shook his head. Why was he even thinking about this?
"Tch. This is stupid," he muttered to himself.
But his instincts told him she was nearby.
He continued his walk, stepping carefully between roots and rocks, his ears twitching at the faintest of sounds. The forest was alive at night—Noctowls hooted, Kricketunes played their midnight songs, and somewhere in the distance, he could hear a running river.
Then, he caught a scent.
Familiar. Mysterious.
His eyes snapped toward a large tree with thick, twisting roots.
A shadow moved.
And then she stepped out.
Zoroark.
Lycanroc's ears perked up as she glared at him.
"You again? What do you want?" she huffed, crossing her arms.
Her voice was sharp, but there was a faint red tint on her cheeks.
Lycanroc smirked. "You were watching me, weren't you?"
Zoroark clicked her tongue and looked away. "Tch. Don't flatter yourself, mutt."
Lycanroc chuckled. "You really think I didn't notice? You were there last night, too. Watching me."
Zoroark's fur bristled slightly. "I—I wasn't watching you! I just happened to be here."
Lycanroc tilted his head. "In the exact same spot? At the exact same time?"
"Yes!" Zoroark crossed her arms tighter. "It's called a coincidence!"
Lycanroc smirked. This was kind of fun.
He sat down on his haunches, his gaze never leaving her.
"So… why'd you run away last time?" he asked.
Zoroark's eyes flickered with something unreadable. Then, she scoffed. "I got bored. You're not that interesting."
Lycanroc narrowed his eyes. Lies.
"Really?" he pressed. "Because you're still here. Talking to me."
Zoroark's ears twitched. "Tch. It's just because… I wanted to see what kind of Pokémon could be so stupid as to run into a tree while staring at someone."
Lycanroc's smirk dropped. "…You saw that?"
Zoroark grinned, her fangs flashing in the moonlight. "Oh, I saw everything."
Lycanroc groaned. "Great. I'll never live that down."
Zoroark chuckled, and for a moment, Lycanroc could see her guard lower just a little.
He took a step forward. "So, what's your story? You live around here?"
Instantly, Zoroark's expression hardened again.
"None of your business."
Lycanroc held up his paws. "Alright, alright. No need to get defensive."
Zoroark clicked her tongue. "I'm not defensive!"
Lycanroc chuckled again. "You sure? Because you keep acting like you don't want to be here, but you haven't left yet."
Zoroark's face turned even redder.
She spun around. "Tch. You're annoying. I'm leaving."
Lycanroc watched as she disappeared into the shadows of the forest, her silver mane the last thing visible before the darkness swallowed her.
For a long moment, he just stood there, staring at where she had been.
Then, he grinned with his shiny sharp teeth.
"Huh hmm she seem to be what Swampert was talking about... what was it ? Ah yes a tsundere ! haha"
His tail wagged slightly as he turned and started making his way back to the farm.
Something told him… this wouldn't be their last meeting.
