Devil

As Harper and Logan entered campus, Harper realized that her smile had never faded. And she knew why. It was because she was taken aback by that morning's turn of events. She actually found the reason behind the picture Logan took of them quite... fluttering.

Logan Hayes was fun to be with—and that was what she was now starting to realize. It was nice how he changed her mood from anger to happiness.

She felt her heart race slightly when she remembered the scene that had just transpired.

As for Logan Hayes, he didn't understand what Harper was doing to him. Around her, he felt free, like he wasn't getting messages from an unknown number telling him the monster, Rapture, needed him back.

Like he had no problems of his own.

But why did she make him feel that freedom?

"So," he began, his voice cutting through the silence, "are you still going to throttle me?" he asked, his smirk in place.

"Mmm, depends," Harper stated, a sly smile on her full lips.

"On? If I may ask?" Logan inquired as he glanced at her.

"Depends on you, actually. Do you promise to be on time next time?" She turned to him. Logan smiled softly.

"Yes," he breathed. "But don't keep your hopes high," Logan added, his tone teasing.

A faint smile tugged Harper's lips as she stared sleepily at him in reply before waving.

"I'm heading to biology class," she mumbled and walked away, taking the left hallway. Logan just stared at her retreating figure—slim, slender, curvaceous, and pretty.

Although he had problems of his own, he had actually realized that Harper was the remedy to all his stress. He smiled weakly at the thought.

The question was...

Who would have thought that the nobody would sort of be his remedy to cool down?

Buzz—

Logan shoved his hand into his pocket and took out his cellphone.

Message from Unknown Number.

No name.

Message: Expect to see me soon, Devil.

Logan was caught off guard. He stopped moving, his gaze lingering on his phone.

That nickname.

A lot of people had called him Devil in his past. They used the name a lot, but there was only one person who used the name more than anyone else did. Who called him Devil more than anyone had ever called him. Simply because they called each other that—in the past.

It was a long time ago. It was all in the past, and Logan knew.

He knew it was only one person who would call him Devil on the spot.

And?

Logan wasn't ready to see him yet.

It was all in the past, and what did the Devil and Rapture want with him after all these years?

As Logan just stared at the message, he couldn't bring himself to reply. He just stood there, frozen with shock.

Eyes on the message...

Unable to even reply.

The next day in class, Harper was reading an article online during a free period when Tyla rushed towards her, squealing.

She had a bright smile on her face, and Harper couldn't help but wonder what made her best friend that excited.

Once Tyla got to Harper's seat, she plopped her butt onto a seat next to Harper, barely breathing. Harper stared at her blankly for a second before getting all too curious.

"Care to explain why you're running towards me like I'm in trouble...?" Harper Reed spoke up. "...Wait, am I?"

Tyla inhaled, then exhaled, her hand resting on her chest the whole time.

"It's a gist, Harp!" she stated, using her hand to serve as a fan.

"Okay, but trust me, if it's something stupid..." Harper didn't even finish before Tyla raised a finger to shush her.

"It is actually important, but... it might not be for you. Please just listen. So here's the whole thing: I have seen the new transfer student everyone is talking about," Tyla said, a bright smile on her lips.

Harper smacked her hand to her forehead in frustration. So the reason why Tyla rushed her was to tell her about the new college transfer student everyone was talking about. She rolled her eyes afterward.

"Really? Ty, you're so impossible!" Harper commented, picking her phone back up to continue reading her article.

"Wow, Harp. The guy is literally a demigod... what was his name again?" Tyla racked her brain to remember, and when she did, her face lit up.

"Damian Blackwood!"
