Jack stared at the hole riddled roof over him. What had been an offer for a glass of water soon turned into an offer to stay as long as he needed.

While drinking water, Jack asked granny if there were any motels nearby. Since she seemed decent; he knew she would point him in the right direction. But to his surprise, she did something beyond his expectation.

She arranged a mattress and a sheet from the neighbors and set up a bed in the living for him. Jack tried declining, but she didn't listen as usual. And now he was there, wondering if the people of Earth had always been this kind or was it Fortuna's doing.

Oh, right… This is an alternate world.

Jack sighed, recalling Fortuna's words. Although everything was identical to the Earth he knew, it wasn't the same planet.

Now, Jack couldn't decide whether it was a good thing.

He would love to greet those fuckers who killed him. But the next second, he shook his head. It wasn't like they had a choice.

It's not like I'm gonna change myself.

"Hold up, that's a lot of information!"

However, it was like the pandora's box had opened and new screens opened before him one after another. The main quest tab was the easiest to understand, as it just showed one thing.

[Mission progress: 1/5,000]

It was keeping count of the women he had slept with. So far, it had only happened with Jessica, hence it showed one.

Next came the side quests. Jack expected them all to be related to lewd things, but surprisingly, that wasn't the case.

While there were more and enough quests requiring him to engage in certain activities, most quests revolved around normal things. For example, the first quest on the list required him to feed five homeless people, for which he would get some rewards.

Jack's curiosity peaked, and he clicked on the title tab next, only to see hundreds of options, all of which were marked with '???'.

It was truly like a game. The more progress he made, the more stuff he would unlock. It was the same with the shop. Most of the things were locked behind paywall and tiers.

At the moment, the shop was useless. Jack needed to upgrade the system using EP (experience points), which he didn't have, and unlock the shop one tier at a time.

"How am I supposed to get EP? The tutorial didn't give me any?"

[EP can be gained by completing certain side quests and intimate encounters.]

"Woah… you can reply to my concerns? It's like an AI."

[I am an artificial intelligence, Jenna.]

"I see, can you—"

[No. I do not possess a physical form. Sharing physical intimacy is impossible, for now.]

"That wasn't what I—"

[I can read your mind, Host.]

"…"

This mind reading thing was bullshit. First Fortuna and now this AI. Jack couldn't keep anything in his head. Not to mention he wanted to increase the main quest progress right away, but it seemed it wasn't possible, for now, as Jenna said.

[I can disappear, if the host desires so.]

"Don't disappear, but make yourself scarce. I don't enjoy hearing strange voices in my head."

[Affirmative.]

With everything taken care of, Jack drifted to sleep. It had been a long day for him and the next was going to be even longer.

Jack woke up to the sound of frying eggs and steam. He propped himself on his elbows and looked around. It was six in the morning, and Granny was in complete mom mode.

"Oh, you woke up? Go on and get ready. I'm making some for you, too."

"Granny, you don't—"

"I thought I made it clear last night," she said, placing a hand on her hips. "You obey my rules while you're under my roof. Now go."

Jack smiled and nodded. It had been a while since he was scolded like this and it reminded him of the good time he had. Before everything went off the rails.

Just as he was about to enter the washroom, the little boy from last night stopped him.

"What's wrong, Juan?" Jack asked.

Juan gave him a toothbrush before looking down and mumbling something.

"I'm sorry about last night…"

Jack chuckled, ruffling his hair. "No, you did the right thing. You're the man of the house, aren't you? It's your duty to protect Granny, and that's what you did."

Juan smiled before rushing into the kitchen.

Jack had barely gotten started when he heard loud voices from the out. He quickly washed his face and headed out, only to see a middle-aged man yelling at Granny.

"Six months! I have given you enough time, woman!" he yelled.

"And I appreciate it a lot, Mr Mehra," Granny replied, smiling politely. "It's just the pension has been—"

"Again with this crap. I'm not asking for free money, am I?" Mehra barked, getting into Granny's face. "Just give me what you owe and be done with this—"

"What's wrong, granny?" Jack asked, appearing behind her.

Mehra mellowed down quite a bit after seeing Jack. It was a natural reaction, since he was much taller and fit than himself.

"It's nothing, son. I can handle this—"

"You call me son, and yet won't let me help you?"

Granny smiled wanly after hearing her words being used against her.

"What does she owe you?" he asked.

"Look, sir, I would rather deal with a family member—" Mehra tried excusing himself, but Jack grabbed him by the shoulder.

"I'm her adopted son. So tell me how much she owes for this shack."

"Three thousand dollars, sir."

Jack nodded. It was less than he thought, but it would deal quite a blow to his savings. However, Jack was more than happy to help. After all, he made five thousand dollars because of Granny and also saved money on food and motel. This was the least he could do.

"Do you accept cards?"

Mehra scratched his head before sighing.

"We can use it in my wife's grocery shop."

An evil thought formed in Jack's head when he heard that word. He was planning to whack the man after paying him, but whacking the man's ego was a better trade.

"Sure, lead the way."
