Cindy and Jack had just parted ways after another shopping trip when his phone buzzed. First message was from Mehra, informing him about the restaurant Anika wanted to go to.
Oriental Bliss. Isn't the same place where the Gala is being held?
Jack sighed.
He knew Anika was a gold digger, but at least she should try to win him over before revealing her true colors. From what Cindy told him, it wasn't a cheap place to dine. Even the cheapest two meal course would cost over five thousand dollars.
I better make some money tomorrow.
Money reminded him of the other thing he wanted to ask Mehra. After setting up the meeting for the day after tomorrow, he asked him if there were any businesses in the locality seeking investments or buyout.
Mehra texted him that there were a few and he would send over the list by night. Jack thanked him and checked Angela's message next.
>> Miss me yet?
Jack rolled his eyes before quickly replying.
>> You have no idea. What do you want?
>> Sheesh, that's no way to talk to your big sis, is it?
Not interested in her banter, Jack was about to close the screen when she sent an unexpected message.
>> You're reckless, you know that? Someone brought your ID to the station. Some and get it when you have the time.
Jack couldn't believe his eyes. He blinked and pinched himself, but the message remained unchanged. Not having an ID was seriously limiting his potential.
Yet he found it strange that someone just randomly appeared and handed over the ID.
It can't be that strange, considering I've been a homeless wanderer.
After snapping out of his thoughts, he quickly typed a message asking for the station's address and headed there.

The atmosphere around the police station was a cold and uncomfortable. Jack couldn't believe someone bubbly like Angela worked there.
It's not my business.
"I'm here to see Angela Jolie—"
He barely got a word out when the officer at the reception pointed her gun at him.
"You're under arrest!"
Jack was taken aback when Angela's voice echoed from behind. For a moment, he thought perhaps it was another one of her pranks and turned around, only to see over a dozen guns pointed at him.
"What is—"
Once again, he wasn't allowed to speak and Angela kicked him in the stomach. The officers pinned him to the ground before forcing handcuffs on him.
All the while, Jack kept looking at Angela in confusion and disbelief. He did not know what was going on, not until he was dragged into the interrogation room.
The room was just like he had seen in countless crime stories. A metal chair, a table and a massive one-way glass ahead. For a few moments, no one entered the room, letting Jack stew in his thoughts.
He hoped it was an elaborate prank, but he wasn't foolish enough to believe that. Something was wrong, and only Angela could explain that to him. Only then did the thought appeared in his head.
Maybe Angela reported him for the what happened the night before. It was the only plausible reason Jack could think of. Thankfully, he didn't have to think for long as the door opened and Angela walked in.
"What is going on?"
Jack blurted out as soon as he saw her. Angela didn't say a word, just glared at him.
"Jack Miller," Angela said, tossing an ID towards him. "That's you, right?"
Jack took one look at the photo and nodded. The man certainly looked like him, but he was Jack Mills, not Miller. Though, it could have been that Fortuna tweaked that detail when he emerged in the new world.
"Murder, kidnapping, extortion," Angela mumbled, throwing file after file before him. "You committed so many crimes and evaded law every time. I guess everyone's fortune runs out one day or the other."
"I don't get what you're—"
"Silence!"
Jack hadn't seen this side of Angela before and was genuinely worried. He didn't know what she was talking about, but he also didn't know about his past.
After being reborn, he had thought Fortuna had just placed him in a new world. But it seemed the body had an owner previously. Someone who loved committing crimes, but how could he prove he wasn't the one behind all these crimes?
Jenna… any ideas?
[Suggested path: Fuck the individual into oblivion and escape.]
…yeah. Any other plan?
[Negative.]
While Jack was talking with Jenna, Angela came and sat before him at the table. He looked up, only to be slapped by her. His face stung as Angela grabbed him by the collar.
"I knew something was off when Grandma told me your name," she mumbled. "That's why I played along for the night and got your fingerprints off my body when you were showering."
Angela sighed, and her face dropped. It felt like she was about to cry, but then shook her head and got back to interrogating him.
"I had hoped and prayed for Grandma's sake that I was wrong. But I wasn't. You are Jack Miller. The ID and prints match with our database. The ID was found at a murder spot five months ago. I've been looking for you ever since."
Jack couldn't even say anything in his defence. The evidences were stacked against him. Angela kept showing him one arrest warrant after the other. He wasn't just wanted in New Borealis, but in the USA, France, and even in China.
He wasn't an ordinary criminal, that was for sure.
Just when Jack thought his life was over, the doors to the interrogation room opened again. He turned towards the gate and saw some officers blocking the path.
Angela grabbed her gun and hurried out. Just as she reached the gate, an officer was kicked inside. It was then did Jack saw an intimidating woman dressed in an all-black suit, surrounded by a few burly men.
With the path cleared, the woman walked inside, with the men stopping the officers. Jack looked at her.
She didn't have Angela's curvy figure, but her legs were longer than her, and her pearl white skin looked blinding in front of Angela's. She wore sunglasses to hide her eyes as her waist-length hair was tied in a ponytail.
"You have no right to interfere in police matters—"
Angela said, pointing her gun at the woman. The woman's expression didn't change as she turned to Angela.
Then, everything happened in a flash.
The woman hit Angela's elbow and forced the pistol out of her grip, then swept her off her feet before disassembling the gun right before their eyes.
Jack was shocked, and he wasn't the only one. Even Angela couldn't believe what had just happened.
Not wasting time, the woman showed a document to Angela with the president's signature. The president was pardoning Jack for all his crimes and also reprimanded Angela and the entire station for sabotaging an ongoing investigation.
"I-I'll have to confirm this…"
With that, Angela hurried out of the room to make some calls, leaving Jack alone with the woman, who smiled at him. Jack awkwardly smiled back, not knowing what the heck was going on.
