Mate

CHAPTER ONE

Elara's pov

My eyes followed the trail of clothes lying helplessly on the floor, it was a clear path, begging to be followed.

It started as a tingling sensation in my toes and before long the coldness wrapped all around me. Everything around me spinned and my fingers tightened against the door handle as I stared blankly at the scene before me.

I couldn't tell how long I stood there, it could have been mere seconds or a couple of minutes but all I was sure of was that in that instance my whole world came crashing down and laid at my feet in pieces.

My heart beat loudly in my chest as I watched Silas, my boyfriend, in a passionate embrace with another woman who wasn't me.

His hands trailed down her body, greedily pulling her against him as if she would disappear if he didn't hold on tight.

My jaw ticked as I remembered when he held me in exactly the same way, a wicked glint in his eyes as he made promises, which I now knew where empty, to me.

"Silas" the woman moaned out with eyes that were glazed in desire as she clung to him for dear life while he grunted in response.

My lips trembled and my vision blurred as I tried to make a sound but my words seemed to be logded deep in my throat. I let go of the door and clenched my fists by my sides, resentment flashing in my eyes as a hot angry tear spills onto my cheek.

My eyes narrowed in on their clothes flung carelessly on the floor in front of me and without much thought I began to snatch them off the floor one by one, uncaring if they would notice my presence which was highly unlikely, given that they were too occupied getting acquainted with their bodies .

I storm out of the room, ignoring the questioning looks thrown my way by pack members.

"Elara are you okay?" Lena asked me but I simply ignored her and made my way out of the pack house with the bundle of clothes securely in my hands.

"There's the birthday girl" someone called out behind me as I made my way towards Silas' car. I fished out his keys from his trouser pockets with a scoff before I open the door and dump the clothes in the back seat.

"Elara where are you going? The party's going to start in an hour" I heard Lena's voice right before I slammed the car door shut and zoomed away.

'Happy birthday to me' I chuckled dryly.

Silas and I had a plan, we had it all figured out or so I thought. We talked about marking each other, getting married and starting a family together but he just threw it all away. A deep pang of pain courses through me as I recall how he held onto the woman as he closed his eyes and parted his lips.

My mind reeled as I recalled the text he sent me, asking me to meet in his room. Did he want me to see them? Was this his sick way of saying he wants out and breaking up with me?

"This was all just a bad dream I would wake up from" I shook my head vigorously as I sniffled.

As traitorous as always, my mind keeps on conjuring images of them together. It keeps on playing in my head like a broken record and something in me snapped as I knew they were still probably there, oblivious to my pain.

My hands clenched tightly against the steering wheel and my leg pressed down harder onto the accelerator pedal.

The scenery before me passed in a blur, I had no idea where I was going but I knew I wouldn't...couldn't stop. My thoughts were jumbled and I couldn't explain or identify my emotions at the moment. All I knew was that I wanted to get far away from everything as fast as I possibly could.

A sob raked through me, then another filled the eerie silence in the car until I was a sobbing mess. A thunderclap boomed, startling me and only then did I realize it was dark and had begun to rain. The thunder was a welcome distraction from my thoughts, it's rage explaining the turmoil within me.

I sped off into the night, ignoring the slippery roads and just as I made a sharp turn around a corner, the deafening sound of metal crashing into metal jerks me out of my thoughts as I ram into another car. I instantly lift my leg from the gas petal with a groan as I turn off the car.

I hurried out of the car, unperturbed by the heavy raindrops, to assess the damage done. The first thing that hits me is the acrid smell of rubber. I cringed as I took in the dented hood of the other car, knowing I would definitely have to pay for the repairs.

A car door slams shut and I rush to begin the long string of apologies on my lips but for some reason I can't.

My lips part but no word comes out as a man with a dark scowl marring his face walks towards me. The overhead lights cast down a shadow on him, making him look magnificent and domineering.

My wolf which had been silent now leaps within me and claws to be let loose but I tame her in.

He was clad in a plain black t-shirt which showed off his muscular arms which had scars running along each one and a plain black trouser. Dark curly hair framed his face and my eyes clashed and held with silver eyes which gazed at me as though trying to bore into my soul.

We stood there, drenched in the rain as we stared at each other for several minutes. Something seemed to shift in the atmosphere and everywhere felt charged with tension.

"Mate" his deep voice growled making my heart drop.
