The Prophecy

CHAPTER TEN

Elara's pov

"But all the females in the pack have been eager to meet you" Diana continued hot on my heels.

"My answer remains the same Diana. I am not meeting any of them" I said firmly.

"But you are the alpha's mate. You are the one meant to lead us" she tried to reason.

"Do you see me bearing his mark?" I quirked a brow at her.

"No but-" her cheeks turn a shade darker.

"Then there is no proof that I am Ronan's mate" I interrupted her.

"Even so Elara. As a female in the pack you have to get to know others" she continued and I groaned knowing she wouldn't drop it.

"Look Diana I appreciate that you want me to feel included in this pack but I think I'm good for now" I tried to placate her.

"Just one meeting Elara. You've been coped up in this house with no one to talk to except me for the last week-"

"That means you make for excellent company" I grinned widely at her and she smiled despite herself.

"A little human interaction will definitely do you some good" she continued.

"Fine Diana" I slammed the book I was reading shut.

"Let's go and meet these women who can't wait to see me" I replied sarcastically to which she rolled her eyes.

"You'll have a wonderful time trust me" she said excitedly.

"And Elara?" She called out to me.

"Please don't try to be rude or drive them off. Trust me nothing you say or do will make them hate you, we've been waiting for Alpha Ronan to get a mate for a long time and we aren't about to let her go just like that" she informed me and I immediately deflated.

"I'll be on my best behavior" I gave her a mock salute. I knew she was indirectly referring to all my attempts the previous week to get people around the pack house to hate me. It started out with shouting at Greta, the nice old lady, who just smiled and promised to do better in the kitchen then ordering that the library be cleaned and polished till it was fit for royalty to live in.

Ronan remained silent throughout all my tyranny and I knew he knew exactly what I was doing but he didn't breathe a word to me.

Seemingly satisfied with my reply, Diana takes the lead as I walk behind her out of the pack house.

"Where exactly are we headed?" I asked her as we fell into lime and walked side by side.

"To the city square. That's where we usually meet" she explained.

"What exactly do you do when you meet?" I questioned.

"Well we talk, get to know one another better. We help women trying to find their feet and teach them skills like knitting, baking and literally anything that can empower them. If anyone has any difficulties they can also ask for advice and receive counsel from our elderly ones" she divulged and I nodded slowly.

After walking for a few more minutes we reached a building which read 'city square' right at the top. Unable to hold her excitement, Diana barges into the building.

"We're here" she squeaked as we strolled in and I stopped in my tracks when all the chatter around the room died down and I felt everyone's eyes at me.

"Hello?" I said awkwardly as a blush stained my cheeks.

"Just ignore them and keep walking" Diana nudged me and I fell into step with her once more.

"Why are they blatantly staring? It's making me uncomfortable" I whispered to her although I knew they could probably hear me due to their werewolf hearing.

"You are new and they don't know you. Just like I said at the shopping mall last time everyone is curious to know the new pack member" she explained.

We walked in silence till we stopped in front of an old woman with wrinkles all over her skin and snow white hair.

"Ayabi" Diana called out to her affectionately before giving her a hug.

"My little munchkin" the woman pinched Diana's cheeks.

"How are you doing?" Diana asked.

"I'm still alive" Ayabi's wrinkled lips cracked into a smile.

"Is she the one?" Ayabi asked, her gaze shifting to me.

"Yes. This is Ronan's mate" Diana nudged me closer to the woman.

"Hi Ayabi" I greeted awkwardly.

"Come child, let me feel you" she stretched out her feeble hands to me.

With an encouraging nod from Diana I held the woman's hands and she gasped. Her eyes trailed down my body before coming to rest on my face once more.

"It's you" she whispered almost as if in awe.

"You...know me?" My brows shot up.

"You are the missing piece to the prophecy" the woman continued, cupping my cheeks.

"What prophecy?" I quirked a brow.

"You are the missing piece to make my Ronan complete" she ignored my question and continued while I looked to Diana for help.

The other women watched our interaction with keen interest but made no move to intervene.

"Alright Ayabi. Let's not scare Elara away alright, I'll introduce her to the other ladies" Diana rested her hands on my shoulders before steering me away from the woman.

"Our destinies rest in your hand" the old woman called out to me.

"Just keep walking" Diana adviced me when I made to turn back.

I was too stunned and perplexed at her words to speak.
