Chapter 36: The Importance of Lu Yusi

Huang Ming watched as Liu Shuang'er and Gu Anqing stared at him with wide, curious eyes, like two kittens waiting to be let in on a secret. Their barely contained questions were almost amusing in their eagerness.

After these days together, he'd come to trust them enough to share his secret. But first, he couldn't resist teasing them a little.

"You really want to know?"

"Yes!" they answered simultaneously, leaning forward.

Huang Ming put away his pistol, closed the window, and sat down on the couch. The two women immediately took positions on either side of him—Shuang'er pressing close in that possessive way of hers, while Anqing sat more properly, though her eyes were just as intense.

"Before everything happened," he began, "I discovered I could access a separate space. A place where I can store things. You've probably already figured that much out."

Shuang'er gasped. "So that's how you always have supplies! It's like magic!"

She wisely didn't ask how much he had stored. Some questions were better left unasked.

Anqing, however, caught something else. "You had this ability before the outbreak? So you knew this was coming?"

Huang Ming kept his expression neutral. He would never tell them about coming back from death—that secret was his alone.

There was something strange about his awakening. By all rights, he should have stayed dead in that previous life. The fact that he'd returned suggested something more—maybe even control over time itself. But he couldn't be sure. Was it a one-time thing? Was there some limit he didn't understand? The questions troubled him.

"Let's just say if you suddenly developed powers, wouldn't you think the world was about to end?"

Anqing nodded thoughtfully, though Huang Ming noticed the calculating look in her eyes. She'd understood more than she let on.

Shuang'er, meanwhile, was still focused on the fighting aspect. "So how does this help in combat?"

"I can create openings in space," Huang Ming explained. "Bullets pass through and come out exactly where I want them to. It makes every shot perfect and more powerful."

Shuang'er frowned. "Openings in space? Like...holes?"

Anqing, ever the scientist, provided a clearer explanation. "He's creating a bridge between our world and that other space. The bullet travels through it and emerges at the target instantly. That's why the shots are so accurate and hit harder than they should."

Huang Ming nodded. "Exactly. Anqing put it better than I could."

Shuang'er pouted slightly, though she couldn't argue with the logic. "Okay, fine. But that means you're basically unstoppable now, right? As long as you have bullets, nothing can touch you."

Anqing shook her head. "It's not that simple. Against regular zombies, maybe. But the mutated ones? We don't know. And against other survivors...well, someone like me could design armor that stops bullets. We can't afford to be careless."

Huang Ming agreed. "Anqing's right. I don't think something like Li Qingya will go down easily. And outside this campus, we'll be dealing with people who won't hesitate to take everything we have."

Anqing, who had spent the day working on weapons, had been considering this problem. "That's why Lu Yusi is so important. If the zombies keep evolving, we'll need more than guns. We need someone who understands them biologically."

She worried that conventional weapons might become useless. But with Lu Yusi's knowledge, they could develop specialized ammunition—maybe even find a way to stop the infection entirely.

The thought excited her. To be working with Lu Yusi again, of all people, and under these circumstances...

Shuang'er nodded. "Right. With her help, we could study the virus. Maybe even make a cure."

Huang Ming stood and stretched. "Then we need to get her out soon. Anqing, finish the armor tomorrow. I'll make my move tomorrow night."

He yawned. "For now, let's get some rest. Tomorrow at eight, we'll see how Wang Lei's little supermarket raid goes."

With that, he headed to the bathroom for a hot shower, then straight to bed. Exhausted, he fell asleep almost instantly.
