Chapter 54: Safely Back at Building 10

Huang Ming felt a pair of icy eyes boring into his back.

Not daring to let his guard down, he quickened his pace alongside Wu Dashan.

Before long,

the two arrived at the school gates. Huang Ming and Wu Dashan vaulted over the electric gate one after the other, finally returning to campus.

As they passed Building 5, Huang Ming glanced toward Building 1—just in time to catch a flash of crimson eyes on one of the balconies before they vanished.

A smirk tugged at his lips. *So this is why Teacher Li Qingya didn't flee outside. She's afraid. She can't take on that three-meter-tall mutated zombie out there.*

But Huang Ming wasn't reckless. If the hulking monstrosity outside had detected them,

then Li Qingya must have noticed them too. Deciding not to linger, he bolted toward Building 10.

**"Lao Wu, run!"**

Huang Ming shouted at Wu Dashan before sprinting ahead.

Wu Dashan froze for a few seconds before exploding into motion, chasing after him.

**"Huang Ming! Teacher Li Qingya's in Building 5!"**

Liu Shuang'er's voice crackled through the radio, updating him.

The moment they'd returned, the three senior girls had begun scouting the area, wary of an ambush.

Just as Huang Ming had expected—she *was* coming for him. Fortunately, he'd reacted fast. He was already nearing Building 10.

He wasn't afraid of her, but taking her head wouldn't be easy right now. Better to regroup and come back prepared.

Wu Dashan wasn't at full strength either, and Huang Ming didn't want him clashing with Li Qingya head-on.

One wrong move, a single scratch—and he'd lose a key ally.

Huang Ming, who trained regularly, had excellent stamina. Wu Dashan, as a strength-type awakened, matched his speed. The two practically *sprinted* back to Building 10.

Effortlessly, they leaped through a window one after the other, landing safely in the first-floor lobby.

Their combat suits were smeared with zombie gore, so Huang Ming decided to clean up first. They headed to Room 201 on the second floor.

The door hung open. Inside lay the corpse of a man—stabbed multiple times in the chest, completely naked, dried blood staining the bed. *One of the boys those girls killed.*

Huang Ming summoned a large amount of water from his dimensional storage, filling the water heater. After rinsing off, they took the elevator to the 15th floor.

He assigned Wu Dashan to Room 1506, while he himself took 1501 at the eastern end.

**"Lao Wu, this is your place now. The lock's busted—replace the core later."**

He pulled out a new electronic keypad lock and tools, leaving them by the door.

Next came a month's worth of food and water, stored in the kitchen. The room was fully furnished—only supplies had been lacking.

Wu Dashan's phone was dead, so Huang Ming waited five minutes for it to power on, exchanging WeChat info and numbers before leaving.

Before going, he added a final warning:

**"Remember what I told you about the others in the building. Watch out for those guys and that group of girls. If they start trouble—don't hold back."**

Wu Dashan, deeply moved by Huang Ming's preparations, thumped his chest earnestly.

**"Brother Huang Ming, don't worry. I got it. I can't thank you enough. Just say the word, and I'll have your back."**

**"Good. Change the lock and rest up. I'm heading out. And—report anything to me first. No solo moves."**

Huang Ming waved and stepped out.

**"Got it!"**

Wu Dashan was already clattering away with the lock.

As a strength-type awakened, Huang Ming wasn't worried about him. Without a backward glance, he strode down the hall to his own apartment.

By the time he got home, it was 11 AM.

The moment Huang Ming shut the heavy metal door, Liu Shuang'er came darting over, ready to cling to him. He stopped her.

**"Shuang'er, not now. I'm still dirty. Let me wash up first."**

Worried his suit might still be contaminated, he planned to disinfect it properly before a hot shower.

**"Mm, come with me. I'll help. I've been mixing a new disinfectant."**

She took his hand, leading him straight to the bathroom. Gu Anqing and Lu Yusi exchanged amused glances—they were used to this by now.

But the moment they entered, Liu Shuang'er started stripping off his combat suit. Huang Ming stiffened. *What is she doing? It's broad daylight—*

Then she pulled out two spray bottles from the cabinet and began sanitizing the suit.

**"What're you standing around for? Go shower!"**

*The way she says that—* His body had locked up, thinking she was about to—

Noticing his awkwardness, Liu Shuang'er snorted while spraying.

**"Pfft, what's with you? I've seen it all before!"**

Flustered, Huang Ming yanked her under the shower with him. *Fine. If that's how you want to play.*

When he emerged, Gu Anqing and Lu Yusi were on the couch watching the news—volume suspiciously loud.

Huang Ming's eyes narrowed in realization. Rubbing his nose, he casually joined them.

Soon after, Liu Shuang'er—hair still damp—walked past, hanging his suit on the balcony where the sunlight was strongest.

Glancing at the clock (noon), Huang Ming called them for lunch.

They unanimously voted for cafeteria food, claiming fancy meals every day weren't practical.

So he retrieved standard school cafeteria dishes from his storage—three sides and a lump of rice per person, identical to what they used to eat.

**"Y'know, I never realized how good the cafeteria food was before,"** Liu Shuang'er mused between bites, cheeks glowing.

Lu Yusi smirked.

**"Shuang'er, you must've worked up an appetite. Better replenish your energy."**

Gu Anqing chimed in.

**"Yeah, you *never* wanted to eat there with me before."**

Liu Shuang'er's face flushed crimson. She caught their insinuation immediately.

Huang Ming blinked, utterly lost.

*What are they even talking about?*

He chuckled awkwardly.

Then Liu Shuang'er shot him a glare—which only confused him more.
