Sophia stood in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection.
Something was wrong.
Her skin looked too smooth, too flawless. Her auburn hair shimmered, catching the light in ways it never had before. And her eyes.
She leaned closer, gripping the edges of the bathroom sink.
Her once soft brown eyes were now tinged with something unnatural—a deep, almost golden glow beneath the surface.
It had started after prom night. The way people looked at her. The way Ryan couldn't take his eyes off her. The way Ann kept tilting her head in confusion.
She wasn't imagining it.
Her transformation had begun.
Sophia closed her eyes, taking slow breaths. Maybe she was just tired. Maybe the stress of finals and graduation was finally catching up to her.
A sudden wave of dizziness crashed over her, and she grabbed the sink to steady herself.
Visions flickered behind her eyelids. Shadows. Crimson eyes. A man's deep voice whispering her name.
"Sophia."
Her eyes snapped open, heart pounding. The room was empty, but she could still hear the echo of that voice.
Lucian.
She didn't know how, but she knew it was him.
A knock on the door startled her.
"Soph?" Ann's voice. "We're gonna be late for school."
Sophia blinked, forcing herself to breathe. "I'll be right out."
She splashed cold water on her face, but the uneasy feeling didn't fade.
Something was happening to her. And it was only getting stronger.

Later That Day
Sophia walked through the crowded school halls, every step feeling strange.
People stared at her. Not just Ryan. Not just her friends. Everyone.
Whispers followed her. Soft, barely-there murmurs. What happened to her? Why does she look… different?
She reached her locker, fumbling with the combination. Her hands were too steady, her movements too precise.
Lucian's voice from last night rang in her head.
"You shine too brightly, little fae. Even humans sense it."
She shook her head. No. That wasn't real. It was just a dream.
"Hey."
Sophia turned. Ryan leaned against the locker beside hers, arms crossed, smirking.
"You look… insanely beautiful today," he said, his gaze traveling down her body.
Sophia's stomach twisted. Ryan had always been flirty, but this was different.
There was something in his eyes.
Something hungry.
"Thanks," she murmured, forcing a smile.
Ryan moved closer, his voice dropping. "You've been ignoring me. You left prom without saying goodbye."
"I wasn't feeling well," she lied.
Ryan reached out, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear.
A chill shot down her spine.
"Don't do that," she said, stepping back.
Ryan's smirk faltered. Then, just as quickly, it returned. "Alright, alright. But you owe me a dance."
Before she could respond, a familiar presence wrapped around her like a storm.
Lucian.
She didn't have to see him to know he was there.
She could feel him.
Ryan's expression shifted, eyes darting behind her. His smirk disappeared.
Sophia turned.
Lucian stood at the end of the hall, watching them.
His gaze was unreadable, but the air around him vibrated with something dangerous.
Sophia swallowed hard.
She had no idea what was happening to her.
But Lucian did.
And he wasn't going to let her escape it.
