Chapter 2: I Want To Become an Immortal

Tian Han was shocked by what he had just heard, and the book in his hands slipped to the ground. His eyes sparkled with excitement as he looked toward the old man. He wanted to be sure of what he had heard, so he asked again.

"Can I really become an immortal?"

Ye Feng had a gentle and understanding expression. He smiled kindly and replied.

"Yes, with the talent you possess, you won't just become an immortal—you will be an extraordinary one."

Tian Han was now certain of what he had heard. He could become an immortal! And not just an ordinary one, but an exceptional one!

This had been his dream since childhood. He had always admired immortals. What child wouldn't? They could fly on swords, wield magic, and even move mountains and split rivers!

How could a child not be in awe of immortals?

Tian Zhi observed his son's excitement, watching as he struggled to stay still. Deep in thought, he pondered.

"An immortal appearing out of nowhere and offering to make an ordinary child immortal… This is truly strange."

Seeing the doubt in Tian Zhi's eyes, Ye Feng stroked his white beard and spoke again.

"Young man, I see you don't believe me. Allow me to demonstrate something for you."

Ye Feng slowly raised his hand and pointed at the books on the shelf. One by one, the books began to rise into the air, floating weightlessly. Then, they started to twist and turn, gradually taking the shape of a dragon.

The dragon was majestic and powerful. Any ordinary mortal who saw it would have believed it was real.

Then, the dragon flew out of the shop, rising high into the sky. A deafening roar echoed through the village.

Hearing this, the villagers panicked, unable to comprehend what was happening. Confused, they looked around in fear until a child pointed at the sky.

"Look! It's a dragon made of books!"

The villagers stared in shock, awe, and fear. How could this be possible? A dragon made of books!

Tian Han's astonishment grew even more at the sight. But beyond his shock, his excitement and happiness surged even higher.

Yes, this was exactly the kind of immortal he had always dreamed of becoming!

Tian Zhi, too, was taken aback. Watching the dragon formed from books and hearing its roar, he could no longer afford to doubt.

He was now certain. This man was an immortal—and not just any immortal.

Tian Zhi was no ordinary villager. He had some understanding of immortals and their ways.

And he knew very well that not every immortal could perform such a feat. In short, this man was powerful!

As Tian Zhi observed the dragon, he fell into deep thought.

Tian Han, on the other hand, focused all his attention on the magnificent creature, trying to catch even the smallest details of its form.

The dragon twisted and coiled in the air, then let out another mighty roar before suddenly dispersing. The books returned to their places on the shelves as if nothing had happened, as if they had never left.

Some of the villagers fell to their knees in reverence, while others ran to hide. This was completely understandable—they were just ordinary people.

How could they know that this was merely a small demonstration from an immortal?

As the spectacle ended, Tian Han turned to Ye Feng, his eyes gleaming with admiration. But then, he shifted his gaze to his father, noticing the deep thought in his expression. He wanted to speak, but he knew he had to wait for his father's decision first.

Ye Feng looked at Tian Zhi with a small smile.

"Young man, do you believe me now?"

Tian Zhi clasped his hands together and lowered his head in respect.

"I apologize for my rudeness, Senior. It was disrespectful of me to mistake someone like you for a fraud."

Seeing Tian Zhi's humility, Ye Feng smiled and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"From your demeanor, I can tell you're no ordinary villager, young man. Your caution is understandable. After all, it's quite unusual for an immortal to suddenly appear and offer to take your son as a disciple."

Tian Zhi bowed his head again and joined his hands together in gratitude.

"Senior, if you would allow me, I'd like some time to think over your offer and discuss it with my son."

Ye Feng stroked his beard and nodded in agreement. Then, he turned to Tian Han.

"Little one, I see that you love reading about immortals. I'd like to gift you this book."

Tian Han looked at his father, his eyes asking for permission.

Tian Zhi made a small hand gesture, and Tian Han, being a smart child, understood its meaning immediately. He bowed his head respectfully and clasped his hands together.

"Thank you, Senior."

Ye Feng observed this and thought to himself.

"It's not just his talent his ability to comprehend and his intelligence are remarkable as well. I hope his potential doesn't go to waste."

Tian Zhi and Ye Feng continued talking for a while longer. Ye Feng thoroughly explained the details and how long they had to make a decision.

At first, Tian Han listened carefully, but as the conversation grew more complex, he began to lose interest and started wandering through the bookshelves instead.

He picked up and examined a few books, flipping through their pages to pass the time.

By then, Tian Zhi and Ye Feng had finished their discussion.

Tian Zhi called out to his son.

"Tian Han, we're leaving."

Hearing his father's voice, Tian Han closed the book he was holding and returned it to the shelf. Then, he walked toward his father and Ye Feng.

"Tian Han, thank the Senior, and let's head home. It's getting dark—your mother must be worried."

Tian Han bowed again in gratitude. His excitement still hadn't faded; he could barely stand still. He wanted to shout, to yell to the world—

"I can become an immortal too!"

But, for now, he had to keep all of this inside.

Ye Feng smiled as he handed the book he had chosen to Tian Han. They exchanged a few more words before it was time to part ways.

Tian Zhi and Tian Han thanked Ye Feng once more and left the shop.

From behind, Ye Feng watched them with an unreadable expression until they disappeared from sight.

On the way back, they heard villagers still talking about the sudden appearance and disappearance of the dragon.

Some claimed it was a sign that a child of the heavens had been born. Others speculated that a hidden treasure had emerged, and the dragon was a divine omen.

Hearing these discussions, Tian Zhi and Tian Han chuckled to themselves. After all, they had seen the truth with their own eyes.

As they walked home, Tian Han's excitement still hadn't worn off, and he bounced around with energy. Seeing his son so happy, Tian Zhi couldn't help but feel warmth in his heart.

But deep inside, he was worried. Should he really allow his son to become an immortal?

This was an incredible opportunity for an ordinary person—like someone suddenly receiving two sacks of gold.

But Tian Zhi knew the truth. Yes, this was Tian Han's dream, but if he left, it could be years before they saw him again—if ever.

As a father, how could he bear such a thing?

His son was his everything. If anything happened to him, Tian Zhi would be the first to rush to his side, sacrificing whatever was necessary to protect him.

But if his son truly had great potential, and that potential was wasted because of his own selfishness, could he live with that?

Lost in thought, Tian Zhi realized they had already arrived home. At the door, Tian Wan was waiting for them. Her face was filled with anger, her brows furrowed, and her eyes carried a mix of worry and curiosity.

Seeing her expression, both Tian Zhi and Tian Han sighed deeply. They had already envisioned what was about to happen in their minds.

Tian Wan scolded them for a while. Tian Zhi and Tian Han listened with resigned smiles on their faces. Once Tian Wan's anger had subsided, she turned around and entered the house.

"You've already made me wait long enough. Hurry up before the food gets even colder."

Tian Zhi and Tian Han, fearing further delay, quickly followed her inside. The moment they entered, they were greeted by a delightful aroma, a fragrance that filled their lungs with warmth.

Yes, a delicious meal was waiting for them!

Without wasting time, they sat at the table. Tian Wan took the food she had prepared from the pot and carefully placed it into their bowls. Tian Han and Tian Zhi had endured a long and tiring day; the moment the food was set before them, they immediately began eating.

Tian Wan watched them and smiled. It was always the same. These two would work themselves to exhaustion during the day, and by the time they returned home, they would be completely worn out. But that was never a problem. Every time they came home, Tian Wan would greet them warmly and have dinner ready.

No matter how tired they were, Tian Wan's presence always brought them warmth and comfort.

Tian Zhi looked at his wife with deep love and admiration, smiling to himself. He truly was a lucky man. With a family like this, what more could he ask for?

Tian Han, on the other hand, was completely absorbed in his meal, his mind focused on nothing else.

He loved his family, of course, but he had not yet matured enough to fully appreciate how much of a blessing this truly was. No matter how intelligent he was compared to other children, he was still just a child, not an adult.

Watching his son devour his food, Tian Zhi chuckled to himself. Then, suddenly, he fell into deep thought.

Naturally, Tian Wan noticed this immediately. She had been married to Tian Zhi for many years and knew him well. How could she not pick up on his mood?

"Dear, did something happen today? You still haven't told me."

"Actually, some things did happen, but it's quite complicated. Let's talk while we eat."

As they ate, Tian Zhi began explaining what had transpired. He told her about the old man, how the books had turned into a dragon, and how he wanted to take Tian Han as a disciple to become an immortal.

"And that's everything that happened."

Tian Wan was left speechless. She sat silently for a moment, trying to process everything she had just heard.

As Tian Zhi spoke, Tian Han had patiently waited for him to finish, not interrupting even once. But when his father finally stopped talking, and his mother remained silent, he couldn't hold back any longer.

"Mother, did you hear that? Did you? I can become an immortal! And not just any immortal, but an extraordinary one! He said I have incredible talent!"

Tian Wan snapped out of her shock, seeing the pure joy and excitement in her son's eyes. She smiled and replied.

"Yes, I heard, Little Han. That's truly an amazing thing!"

"Right? Right?! Who would have thought that an immortal would come and personally invite me to join him!"

Tian Han had been holding back his excitement for a long time. Now that he was home, he could finally let it all out.

Jumping out of his chair, he moved to the center of the room and continued speaking, his face filled with excitement.

"Just imagine! I'll be able to fly on a sword!"

As he said this, he visualized it in his mind and even acted as if he were actually flying on a sword. He continued.

"And then, I'll be able to use magic! Take this! Roaring Dragon Strike!"

He waved his hands and body as if casting a spell, his expression serious and determined.

Seeing this, Tian Zhi and Tian Wan couldn't hold back their laughter.

It was such a funny sight—a little child excitedly explaining something, acting as if he were already living the moment.

Tian Zhi and Tian Wan watched him attentively, finding his enthusiasm both adorable and amusing.

Tian Han kept going.

"A dragon, huh? Do you really think you can defeat the Great Tian Han? Now witness my true power..."

"You mortals… this is nothing special. For me, this was merely child's play..."

"Yes, I am the supreme immortal—"

"Hahahahaha!"

Tian Han had been acting out his fantasy for quite some time now, and Tian Zhi and Tian Wan were both laughing uncontrollably.

In the end, Tian Han, exhausted from the long day, could not keep his body upright any longer and finally collapsed between his parents.

Tian Zhi and Tian Wan sat quietly for a while, gently stroking their son's hair. Then, they looked at each other and smiled.

Slowly, Tian Zhi stood up and picked Tian Han up in his arms. He bent down and gave Tian Wan a gentle kiss before heading toward Tian Han's room.

He entered the room, carefully laid Tian Han on his bed, and turned toward the door. But before leaving, he glanced back once more, watching his son sleeping peacefully, snoring softly. He smiled.

Leaving the room, he returned to the living room and sat beside Tian Wan. Once again, a deep look of contemplation settled on his face.

Tian Wan placed her hand on his shoulder, looking into his eyes as she spoke.

"Dear, what are you thinking?"

"I'm not sure… This is an incredible opportunity for him, but you know how dangerous that world is."

Tian Zhi leaned back, staring at the ceiling as memories flooded his mind. He thought about the man he had once traveled with for so many years… He knew better than anyone how that story had ended.

"This must be a difficult choice for you, dear."

"It's not just my decision. This is Tian Han's future we're talking about… but I'm scared. The immortal world isn't as wonderful as ordinary people think."

"I know… but this is our son's dream. Didn't you see how happy he was when he talked about it?"

"I did. How could I not? I don't think I've ever seen him that happy before."

"How much time do you have to decide?"

"Until sunset tomorrow."

"I think we should let Tian Han make the final decision."

"I know… I suppose that's what we should do."

Tian Zhi and Tian Wan continued their conversation.

Morning arrived. The sound of birds chirping and the whisper of the wind filled the air.

Tian Zhi had woken up early, chopped wood, and stacked the logs neatly. Tian Wan was preparing breakfast.

Tian Han woke up feeling sluggish. Yesterday had been exhausting, and he was still feeling the fatigue. Stretching, he got out of bed and lazily walked to the living room.

The moment he entered, the scent of delicious food hit his nose. He immediately went to the kitchen to see what his mother was cooking. After chatting with her for a while, he went outside to find his father.

Tian Zhi, tired from chopping wood, was resting under a tree when Tian Han approached him.

"Good morning, Father."

"Good morning, son. Come and help me out for a bit."

"Alright, Father."

Tian Han quickly got to work.

Once they had finished, Tian Zhi placed his hand on Tian Han's shoulder, his face serious.

"Son, last night, your mother and I talked… and we've decided to leave the choice up to you. But before that, there are a few things you need to understand."

Tian Han listened carefully.

"If you decide to go, you won't be able to see us for a long time. Even if you want to return, you won't be able to. You will face countless hardships. But if you still choose to go… I won't stop you."

Tian Han remained silent for a long while, deep in thought.

Finally, his face grew more serious and determined.

And then, he spoke.

"I want to become an immortal!"
