Cassandra POV
"D-Duke?" I stuttered as my eyes landed on the fuming vampire who didn't seem at all happy to see me in his office. His eyes were blood red, scaring the fish sticks out of me.
"What're you doing here?" he repeated the question while giving me a look that said I'll be dead in seconds if I didn’t answer.
"I'm sorry, I-I was just curious", I stuttered out an apology silently praying that today wasn't my last day on earth. He stepped closer succeeding in intimidating me. I was still crouched near the bottom drawer while he stood towering over me and looking down at me with disdain. I was beyond intimidated.
He suddenly pulled me up to my feet making me squeal with fear and shock and within seconds I was pinned to a wall, his arms taking a firm grip of my upper arms.
"You really need to learn to mind your own business, Cassandra", he snarled as his grip got tighter causing me to whimper.
"I'm s-sorry", my voice cracked as terrified tears ran down my cheeks, knowing that the vampire standing before me could end my life within two milliseconds wasn't very assuring.
"You had the audacity to thrash my room and still snoop around?" he ranted, ignoring my apology. I had thrashed his room earlier out of spite before Drake showed up.
His grip tightened to the point were it felt like my bones would break in a matter of seconds. "No wait... please", I choked out.
He chuckled darkly. "Now you're begging", he grinned, showing of his fangs succeeding in making my heart leap into my throat.
"I told you we'll know who was in control", he smirked. "So who is in control Cassandra?" he asked with venom clear in his voice. I was too scared to form any words, my lip just quivered in a failed attempt.
“Who is in charge Cassandra?” He whispered to me as my wrist continued to burn. I choked back a sob. “You are”.
I felt something sharp graze my throat suddenly noticing his extended claws which snapped me out of my dazed flashback instantly.
I suddenly felt regret. Why didn't I listen to Drake? Why did I have to be so stubborn? Why did such a good day have to end so horribly? Now this raging vampire was going to slit my throat open and dispose my corpse in a ditch somewhere.
"P-please... stop", my voice came out weak and pained. All anger suddenly vanished and he looked more confused than angry. To my surprise, he leaned back and looked at me with an unreadable expression and he slowly let go of me. His eyes instantly turned normal. “I'm sorry for scaring you", he suddenly apologized making me eyes widen.
"I was just angry. I-I had a bad day", he apologized. "Forgive me", he looked so apologetic and sincere that I nodded. He smiled taking that as a sign that I had forgiven him, he placed a small kiss on my forehead.
Was he bipolar or something?
I was still shaken up by everything and made a mental note to myself not to mess with this unpredictable vampire.
"It was my fault, don't worry about it", my voice came out a lot smaller than I intended.
I speed-walked out of there while making sure to keep my head low. I really didn't want to do anything that would tick him off. I just want sleep.
The moment I opened the door to Duke's room, I let out an annoyed groan. The room was still a huge mess and I wouldn't be able to sleep well till I clean it up. I got to work in picking up various items I had tossed around earlier. I even had to pick up some broken items and I regretted thrashing this room in the first place.
By the time I was almost through with cleaning up the mess, Duke walked in without any hint of his former anger. I could only guess that he had been going through his stuff to make sure I hadn't stolen anything. He didn't say anything to me and just walked up to his desk.
Just as I was about to put the last book on the shelf, I felt a very sharp pain in my mouth. It was enough to make me drop the book and put my hand over my mouth. The pain got worse, it was almost like my gums were tearing apart.
Before I could stop myself, I let out an ear piercing scream. It caught Duke's attention from whatever it was he was looking through at his desk. He ran to me and gently grabbed my shoulders.
"Cassie, what's wrong? what happened?" he asked frantically with worry in his eyes which surprised me.
"It hurts..." I managed to mumble despite the pain.
I slowly removed my hand from my mouth and inspected it. It was completely covered in blood and more blood continued to drop from my mouth onto the floor. I let out another scream on seeing the blood, my hands trembling.
"Oh shit", Duke mumbled. He grabbed his phone on the desk and called someone. I was too deep in pain to care about who he called or what he said on the phone.
"It's going to be fine Cassie. Just breath, okay?"
I almost didn't hear him. The pain was starting to make my mind go foggy and I wondered how possible it was for my mouth to produce such a high amount of blood.
I almost didn't hear the knock on the door or see Duke when he went to open it. Someone stepped in but I couldn't quite register who it was.
"Damn", I heard someone mumble. "This is your fault!” I heard another voice whisper- yell.
"Can you quit blaming me for this and just help her", another voice replied sounding tired and fed up. I believed it was Duke’s.
"Whatever", the second voice answered.
I suddenly felt hands on my shoulder making me jolt. "Just calm down", I heard someone whisper to me soothingly as I was lowered down into what I think was a chair.
I felt someone pull my head back a bit and a liquid was poured into my mouth. It tasted really sour but I somehow ended up swallowing it.
Immediately, the pain reduced till it was just a dull ache and I stopped bleeding. My mind became less foggy and I could finally take note of my environment.
I was still in Duke's room and was sitting on one of the couches. Drake stood in front of me with a soft smile and his hands gently rubbing my shoulders. Behind him was a girl who looked only a few years older than me holding some kind of bottle which she gently placed on a stool. Duke stood beside the girl with a relieved expression on his face.
"So, I think that worked", the girl said as she gave me a small genuine smile.
"Sure did" Drake replied without taking his eyes off me. "You okay?" he asked me while searching my face for what I think was a hint of blood or discomfort.
"I'm fine, thank you" I replied and smiled back.
Duke made his way to my side and grabbed one of my hands, rubbing it soothingly he said "I'm so sorry". I gave him a questionable look. He's been apologizing quite a lot and in all honesty it's starting to freak me out.
"What for?" I asked wanting to know how what happened had anything to do with him.
He pressed his lips nervously which only made me freak out more. Since when is Duke nervous?
"I-I... um" he stuttered nervously. Drake rolled his eyes in annoyance. "Why don't we just show you?" he said and gestured to the girl who brought out a compact mirror from the purse she was carrying.
"What exactly am-?" I stopped mid-sentence when I noticed something different. I parted my lips and let out a small scream when I noticed that what was in my mouth weren't teeth but fangs.
"What happened to me?" I practically shrieked. Duke winced a bit then started off very nervously, "I can explain..."
"No he can’t", the girl interrupted with her hands crossed over her chest, earning a glare from Duke and an eye roll from Drake.
"Anna", Drake said in a sharp warning tone. So her name is Anna.
"Sorry but she has to know", Anna said and Drake just huffed out a breath whereas Duke seemed to be boring holes into Anna with that glare of his.
"Remember that night when Duke bit you?" she asked me.
"Yeah?", I replied having no idea where this conversation was heading.
"Well, that was when your transformation began. Bit by bit your system started to change but it was happening really slowly that it was hardly noticeable. Since, you aren't human your transformation is a lot slower, at least that's what I think, I've never heard of an unknown being transforming into a vampire".
I just stared at her my mind trying to break down what she had just explained. I mean, I've known I was a vampire but it just seemed more real now that my transformation had physically begun.
"What about the pain? And the blood?" I asked.
"Getting fangs isn't the most fun process, actually no part of the transformation is, but it's just something you have to go through. Duke is taking the blame because he bit you without your consent and that’s the whole reason you're going through all this pain", she explained and shot a glare at Duke. “You would be charged with assault if you weren’t-“ Duke took an angry step towards her and she stepped back, cutting herself off.
Duke let out a very terrifying hiss making her gasp in fright. Drake intervened and equally let out a terrifying hiss at Duke, which for some reason seemed to shut him down.
There was definitely something going on between these three that I knew nothing about but I think I'm just gong to mind my business for now.
The girl turned her attention back to me, choosing to ignore Duke. “Duke sent Drake and I to get you a potion to help with the pain. Brewed it up myself”, the brunette smiled at me as she took the potion bottle and put it the jeans of her trousers.
"So you're Anna?" I was already really intrigued by her already.
"Yes, I’m their sister" she answered as she pointed to both Duke and Drake.
"No way! You guys didn't tell me you had a sister. Can I see your fangs?" was it obvious that I was excited to meet another female in my male over-ridden world?
"Actually, I'm a witch so I don't really have fangs", she replied with a shrug. I gave her a questioning look and she elaborated "I'm their adopted sister".
"Oh, so you have witch powers and stuff?"
"Pretty much, but how about you get some rest now and maybe later I'll tell you about the transformation procedure?"
"Okay", I replied. I was already feeling really sleepy anyway.
