Jason POV
"Why me?" Preston practically yelled. I sighed and put down the files I was looking through before narrowing my eyes at him. "Well, I can't do it". Because I'm way too busy.
"Isn't there someone else? I really don't want to get near that vampire", he rushed out frantically before barring his teeth and letting out a low growl, probably thinking of the past.
"Not all vampires are the same, Presto", I try to say as softly and reassuringly as possible. I know what he's been through and I honestly understand why he would get like this.
"How can you be so sure? I just don't want to take chances having a vampire in the pack. Not after-" he trailed off, his eyes turning sad as his gaze shifted to my arm. The scar must have brought back old memories because I saw him shudder.
I let out another sigh, "Trust me, Cassandra is not like that", I said reassuringly. In all honesty, I don't take Cassandra to be the overly blood thirsty type of vampire. She just seems to be annoying and overly childish but my gut tells me she's not like the ones we've encountered. Besides, she looks pretty innocent.
"If you think so, but no promises that I would be nice", he said with a smirk as he got up. I chuckled, "as long as you don't kill her".
Just as he was about to leave, I add "maybe you should take Caroline with you so she could give you a good smack if you do try to bite off her head".
He let out a groan as he swung the door open. "You're the worst". He pauses and looks back at me. A look of guilt crosses his features in a matter of seconds and his eyes move to the floor nervously before looking back at me again.
"Uh... Jay?"
"Yeah?"
He clears his throat and shifts his weight to one leg. A nervous habit. "Your dad is back... and he knows about Cassandra".
My eyes widened and I let out a groan before burying my head in my palm. "Shit, how did he find out?" I ask in a rush. My father knowing about Cassandra is very bad news. How did he even find out?
"Some pack members saw her the day you two went shopping and reported that there was a vampire on pack grounds" Preston answered my unheard question. I don't even remember that, I guess I was so trapped in my head that I started functioning on autopilot. I should have kept Cassandra away from pack members.
He looked like he wanted to say something else but hesitated as he started to shift his weight from one foot to another.
"What's wrong?" I asked softly. He looked back at me with an expression of guilt. "Well...George told me to come over to his office and asked some questions. I... told him that you and Cassandra are mates" he said the second part in a low voice.
Judging by everything he just told me, it was safe to say that I was royally screwed. Like seriously screwed with no way out.
"I'm sorry Jay. I couldn't lie to him", he apologized sincerely, looking at me with pleading eyes. I let out a sigh before running by palm down my face. "It's okay. It wasn't your fault" I assured.
I know just how Preston feels about my dad. He doesn't agree to his methods but is still entirely submissive to him. He feels that he owes my dad his life for taking him in and raising him after everything that happened.
"So what are you going to do?" He asked. "No choice but to face the music " I tell him "but one thing I'm not going to do is let Cassandra go. Something tells me I wouldn't be getting a second chance mate". I might not like her but we're mates for a reason.
"I'm so sorry Jay", he apologized again in a low voice. "Preston stop beating yourself up about it. It wasn't your fault and it wasn't anyone's fault. It just happened".
Preston gives me a look that says he isn't convinced but nods nonetheless. "I guess this means you'll have to show Cassandra around then because I can't do it if I'm going to see dad".
Preston groaned as he reopened the door before turning back to me once again. "Be careful Jay".
"Always", and with that he left. I knew it wouldn't take long for my father to call me in to see him after what he learned. Just as I predicted, my phone rings.
"Hey son", his voice reveals no emotion whatsoever which definitely wasn't a good sign. "Yes?" I reply with a bit of an edge to my voice but trying hard to keep emotion away from my voice as well. "I need you to see me in the office right now. We have some very important issues to discuss".
I'm so screwed. "Alright, I'll be there soon", I say as I hang up the phone.
I groan and lean back in my seat staring at the ceiling as I feared the worst. It wasn't me I was worried about, I feared for Cassandra, goddess knows what he was going to do to her. I need a Luna but he doesn't seem to get that. I don't care if it's a werewolf, vampire or even a witch just as long as the pack has a Luna. And since she was the one chosen, I need to do everything in my power to ensure I don't loose her.
I sit back up before getting my keys from the desk and heading out. I walked down to the garage and got into my car, started it up and headed toward the company building. I clenched and unclenched my palms round the steering wheel to ease my worry and slight temper.
I parked the car and took a few deep breaths, readying myself for the worst before stepping out of the vehicle and heading into the building.
I received some greetings from the pack members present as I walked down the hallways towards his office.I smiled politely despite myself before heading to my father's office.
I let myself in and take a sit without waiting for his permission. "What do you need?" I ask with a bit of a hostile tone, getting straight to the point.I don't have time for the beating around the bush bullshit. I didn't want to be here any longer than I'm supposed to.
He glared at me but didn't mention anything about my behavior. "So Jason, I've heard some really interesting news about someone you recently brought into the pack", he started as he leaned his body forward and stared straight at me.
"So?" I ask knowing that I was starting to get on his nerves with my nonchalant behavior. His eyes flared but his voice remained calm. "Care to explain why you let a vampire on pack grounds?"
"No", I reply simply then smirk at him. He lets out a growl of annoyance at my behavior and I do the same as a challenge.
"Do you know the amount of danger you're putting the pack in?" He yelled but I chose not to answer because it was clear that he too was stuck in the past. I'm sure the brat wasn't stupid enough to attack a whole pack of werewolves.
"Reject her!" He yelled as he got up with so much force that his chair fell over. I did the same and let out a growl at his suggestion. "I will be doing no such thing", I growl lowly.
"A vampire will not be the Luna of this pack!"His fists hit the desk hard almost splitting the wood.
"That's not your choice to make!" I could feel my rage taking over me. This is what always happens when we are around each other. Both of us can just never get along. There is always one fight or the other.
"It is, I can make choices concerning this pack" his voice became lower in a threatening way "I still have power over this pack, remember?"
His words made me growl and my wolf struggled to resurfaced. I struggled to hold back my claws that were also aching to tear something.
When I turned nineteen as was the tradition of werewolves, the title of alpha was handed of over to me. Only it wasn't handed to me in the typical traditional way. Somehow my father managed to only give me half the control of the pack and keep the other half giving both of us equal control of the pack.
I honestly didn't know that was possible but somehow he did it. He was scared that I was still pretty incapable and now both of us go by the title alpha. It feels wrong. Though one thing I’m relieved about is the fact that he spends most of his time in the human realm running his businesses and hence doesn’t have much time for pack affairs making me the recognized alpha.
But since I don't the have complete power of an alpha, I am stronger than an average wolf but weaker than a typical alpha werewolf. My wolf form is also relatively smaller but still larger than that of an average wolf. Despite the setbacks, I worked had and became the youngest and most powerful alpha in existence currently.
The title ceremony was also done on a blood moon which ended up binding me to it. It's horrible. A lot happens on the Blood Moon and let's just say they aren't very good things.
"I don't give a shit!" I yell as I walk towards the door. "I'm not rejecting my mate".
Just as I was about to bang the door when I heard my father's voice behind me. "I'll give you some time to get rid of her before I come for her myself".
I growl but choose to ignore him. I take hastened steps down the hallway as I try to keep my anger in check. A thought crosses my mind and I smirk. I turn a corner and head down a dark staircase .I pull out a key from my pockets and insert it into one of the doors locks.
The room is dark and has a strong scent of blood. I could sense the anger and resentment rolling of one of the prisoners along with the pain he was in.
The prisoner turns to me and glares but the others seem to be asleep. "What the hell are you doing here?" The prisoner asked me in a hushed whisper which I'm sure was to avoid waking up his partners. I didn't miss the edge in his voice though. His resentment for me was clear as day but I didn't really give a shit.
"Just thought I'll drop by and say hello", I grinned. Seeing his anger and battered and bruised body seemed to quench my anger a bit. Out of all the prisoners, he was definitely the one I resented the most.
He scoffed in annoyance and glared at me harder, "just let us go. We don't know where he is" he tells me for the up tenth time.
I crouched down so that I was in the same level as him considering he was chained up sitting on the ground. "Do you expect me to believe that? For all I know you could just be trying to protect your partner".
"I'm saying the truth, Jason" he spat. I growled before grabbing on to his blond hair and yanking it, making him groan in pain. "Either you talk or you die".
"I'll gladly die just let them go at least. They know nothing. You can take me instead", his voice was pained as he managed to get a short glimpse at the other sleeping prisoners despite the grip on his hair.
I smirk at him, "the amount of care you have for your partners is quite I intriguing. There seems to be something deeper going on between you guys than just being business partners", I tell him. He doesn't reply and just stares into my eyes with a blank expression, making it impossible to decipher his thoughts.
"I'll give you a little more time than I first intended. If you don't give me the information I need. You all die".
With that I stand up and head towards the door. "If you kill us then how are you supposed to find him?" I hear him ask cockily from behind me.
"If what you're saying is true and you really have no knowledge of your partner's whereabouts then I wouldn't need you and I'll dispose of you. I have other ways I can find him. You're just the easiest option. On the other hand, if you do know where he is and you're hiding it, you'll still suffer the same fate. You'll lose either way, unless you give me what I want".His face goes blank and turns even paler if that's possible at this point.
I leave the room and lock the door behind me. That definitely helped in quenching my anger. Those criminals have been on our radar for more than three years now . I'm glad that we finally caught them but their partner managed to escape and I wouldn't quit till I have him.
I was still on my way to my car when one of the pack soldiers rushed towards me. "Alpha, the borders are under attack!"
"What happened?" I rushed out in a panic. "A vampire and witch are trying to get in", he answered.
I let out a growl of anger as I rushed down to the borders. If Cassandra had anything to do with this attack, goddess help her. I would forget all about needing a Luna and even do more than my father suggested.
When I get to the forest a few wolves are injured and being carried by other pack soldiers. What the hell happened?
"Where's the head of security?" I ask the pack soldier that had informed me about the intruders. "He went with the injured wolves to the clinic but the Gamma is present".
"The Gamma is here?" I ask in surprise. I wasn't expecting her to be back yet. She didn't tell me she was coming back. She's been gone for so long.
"Sup alpha!" I turn and smile when I see my gamma walking towards me with her hands buried in her coat pockets. Her curls blew in the wind and her dark skin shone in the moonlight.
"You didn't tell me you were coming", I tell her as she gets closer. "Thought I'll surprise you" she finally got close and wrapped her arms round me and I gladly returned the gesture not minding that we were currently in public. The pack already knew we were close.
"I missed you Jay", she said as she pulled back. "Missed you too Natty" I tell her sincerely.
"About the intruders, did you get them?" I ask getting to business. She nodded, "Mhm, follow me".
We hop into her car and she starts to drive. "Didn't think I'll be met with so much drama the moment I got back", Natalie laughed.
"So what exactly happened?"
"Well, I just got back and was about to head into pack grounds but then I saw a bunch of wolves flying in the air at the border", she explained.
"Flying in the air?"
"Yeah, like something was throwing them around. I got down from my car and was immediately approached by one of the soldiers. He informed me about the intruders that had invaded our borders, a vampire and witch".
"Exactly how many soldiers got hurt?" I ask her. "About ten, most of the soldiers were just tossed by the witch. She was a witch of wind".
A memory of a particular wind of witch I once knew crosses my mind and I let out a sad sigh.
"You said you got them. Where are they now?" I ask just as she pulls up into the pack house garage. She hops out of the driver's seat. "Let's go".
I follow suit and she leads me through the hallways to the infirmary. Our pack had a clinic so the infirmary was mostly used for whenever a higher up or someone close to a higher up got hurt. It was usually empty.
This was the infirmary I put Cassandra in not because she fell in any of the categories but because I wanted to keep her away from the pack members.
She got hurt at the wrong time though because they were no medical personnels available. They had joined the pack soldiers for their missions and the few that were left behind took a vacation that week. That's why Preston had to do the treatment and frankly he did it horribly. Whether it was because he actually didn't know how to put on a bandage or he purposely did it wrong because of his hate for vampires remains a mystery.
My guess is that Natalie put the intruders here for the same reason I did Cassandra. I pushed the door open and what I saw made my mouth drop open.
"Just heal it!"
"No, it makes me look fierce".
"That's stupid. You're bleeding".
"It's justified. I just fought a bunch of damn werewolves. Give me some credit", the vampire with brown hair and green eyes said with a proud smirk making the other face palm. His witch counterpart looked disappointed.
They were too busy arguing to notice our presence till Natalie cleared her throat. They immediately turned to face her. "Oh hey Natalie. You're back-" the vampire trailed off as his gaze landed on me and his mouth fell open.
His sister was staring at me wide eyed, her mouth also open. I equally stared at them wide eyed. "Stop staring at each other like idiots", Natalie scoffed.
Her voice woke me up from my trance and I mumbled, "D-Drake? Anna?"
Anna immediately broke into tears and rushed at me, swinging her arms round me. "It's been way too long", she cried. "My baby is all grown up now", she cried as she went complete mama mode on me. Checking how I was doing, what I was eating and stuff like that.
I hugged her back as well, burying my head in her hair. I've missed them so much. To these two, I basically owe my life to for what they they did for me.
The witch of wind I had actually been thinking about earlier was here in person and embracing me. To think that it was her who was the supposed intruder almost made me laugh.
"You're all grown up now", Drake said with admiration in his voice as he pulled me into a hug the moment Anna released me. "I'm taller than you now too", I smirk causing Drake to move away from me with with a mock annoyed look. "And you've ruined it".
I hadn’t seen them in so long probably since I was about sixteen.
I laughed and the girls joined in. I took a seat on one of the beds. "So care to explain why you two attacked the borders?"
Anna let out a sigh, "how about we explain this over drinks. Let's celebrate, three of your friends just returned for god sake".
We head down to the living room where I serve everyone their drinks because I really don't mind doing it.
"Drake and I actually came here to find someone and accidentally found your territory. We got attacked by the wolves at the border and had to fight our way out. Our apologies to the injured soldiers", Anna explained.
Drake heals his bleeding jaw before taking a sip of his drink. "I didn't mean to beat them up so badly", he smirked probably letting his ego grow.
"Who exactly were you guys coming here to find?" I ask.
We're interrupted by someone screaming out my name as they approached the living room.
"Jason we've got a lot to talk about. Especially that problematic beta of yours!" I hear Cassandra yell from the hallway. Why now?
Drake and Anna's eyes widen in happiness and Natalie's eyes widen in shock the moment their eyes land on Cassandra.
Cassandra sees them and immediately stopped in her tracks. Her eyes flew open and they start to brim with tears. She just stood there frozen, a thousand emotions swirled in her eyes along with the tears.
Am I missing something?
"Cassandra!" Natalie screamed in surprise. She ran to Cassandra and started spilling the water works.
Yeah, I'm seriously missing something.
"N-Natalie" Cassandra stuttered as she wrapped her arms round Natalie. I was trying to wrap my head round the fact that they knew each other and judging by Drake and Anna's reaction, I'll say they know her too. The two were crying and hugging each other and Anna also joined in at some point.
I just stared at them in confusion. I had so much to ask but no idea how to ask them. I glanced at Drake for help but he just shrugged so I walked over to the crying ladies since he offered no help whatsoever.
"Don't ever interrupt women who are crying and hugging. It's a death wish" Drake warned playfully as he grabbed my arm to stop me from going over to them.
He had a look in his eyes that reflected pure joy as he watched the girls cry. I had no idea what was happening and I'll be lying if I said I should wasn't dying of curiosity.
"Drake!" Cassandra called as she ran over and threw herself at him. He caught her and twirled her around a bit earning an instinctive protective growl from me.
I inwardly groaned in frustration. I don't care about Cassandra, I really should get a grip of myself.
"Okay what's all the screaming about? Some of us would like to sleep".
We turned to see Preston standing there rubbing his eyes tiredly with Caroline on his back, her legs were wrapped securely round his waist.
I bet Caroline had forced Preston out of bed and made him give her a ride. That's just how she is and I find it so damn funny. Those two were definitely made for each other.
"Natalie!" Caroline shrieked as she jumped off Preston's back making him stumble and almost fall over.
"Hey Carol" Natalie greeted with a huge grin as she wrapped her arms around Caroline. "Hey Presto" she greeted Preston as well. He gave her a tired wave but a very genuine smile. "Hey Natty", he greets but let's put a loud yawn right after earning a giggle from her.
Caroline looks behind Natalie to see Drake and Anna. She doesn't know them so she offers a shy small wave which the two responded with a smile and a nod.
"Preston, I'd this your mate?" Anna asked smiling cheekily at Preston. He seemed so tired he didn't even notice them.
Preston's eyes move to the two standing behind Natalie, his eyes grow wide and he freezes.
"Hey miss us?" Drake asked smugly as he approached the shocked werewolf. "Guys?" Preston whispered before practically throwing himself at Drake.
If there was any vampire Preston loved and respected, it was Drake.
"My hug?" Anna smiled as Preston walked towards her and wrapped his arms around her as well.
"Now this is all very touching but can someone explain what's going on here?" The bratty vampire voiced my exact thoughts.
"Let's do that over a drink... or twenty", Caroline cheers as she heads towards the kitchen. "Not twenty" Preston scolds as he follows her. Probably to make sure she doesn't end up getting twenty drinks because trust me she can. We had already ran out of the drinks we brought earlier but none of us are even close to being tipsy. Perks of being a supernatural.
They come back with the drinks and Cassandra immediately dives for one. Drake grabs her arm and drags her away from the laid out drinks.
"C'mon!" Cassandra groaned in annoyance but Drake just rolled his eyes at her antics.
"You aren't legal", he said with a smirk and Cassandra started yelling some shit that I really didn't care about. The dumbass talks way too much.By the way they interacted, I could tell they were close. I really wanted details.
"Shut the fuck up or I'll rip out your tongue and feed it to Caroline", Preston yelled as he gulped down his drink. He was clearly annoyed by her excessive talking as well.
I wonder if Caroline got her on sugar rush.
Caroline leans into him and smirks "I don't think that's very healthy babe". Preston just rolls his eyes at her comment before placing a covert kiss on the top of her head.
"Yeah, tell him" Cassandra huffs as she glared at Preston but is still looking longingly at the drinks.
"C'mon little parrot, let's get you some juice"I tell her before she does anything stupid. She starts yelling something which I promptly ignored but she followed me nonetheless. We go into the kitchen and I give her a bottle of juice and a glass before getting more shot glasses.
"Have you found anything on my brothers?" Cassandra asks me as she pours a glass of juice for herself. Her face looked incredibly sad and I was tempted to go over and comfort her but immediately looked away to avoid doing so.
She didn't give me much to go on, only that they were kidnapped around midnight. She didn't even give me their names which made things really difficult.
"We haven't found anything yet but we're trying", I tell her but still didn't look in her direction. "We don't really have much to go on".
"I-" she trailed off and the next thing I heard was the sound of breaking glass.
This has to be the longest chapter I've ever written in my life. Over four thousand words. I'm proud of myself.
I just finished my exams and I’ll be graduating from high school next week so I would probably have more time on my hands and I’ll try to update more.
If you enjoyed this chapter please don’t forget to show some support, it really helps. See y’all soon. Bye for now :)
