S1 E16: Courtroom Debate Pt. 1

Silver Heart (Present Day)

Opening my swollen eyes, I was greeted by the cold, bloodstained concrete. Taking a gasping breath, my lungs unstuck themselves before I coughed up blood. My shallow ragged breaths between the coughing fits burned, giving the impression that I had been suffocating moments earlier. The only bright side was that the throbbing pain began to lessen with each breath.

Was I dead? My chest feels weird...

Looking down at my chest, I watched a dislocated rib pop back into place, and, for a split second, a glowing green scarab appeared. I couldn't tell if what I was seeing was real or a pain-induced hallucination. My heart painfully pulsated, agitating the once dulling pain. Gripping my chest, the pain spread throughout my body. My teeth ached as my nails grew. My body burned against the icy floor as it uncontrollably shook with every beat of my heart.

“Do you think that kid is going to die?” Miguel mused to no one in particular.
