Chapter 29

The sudden movement of Samson's secretary, quickly straightening up, made it so that Gloria didn't have time to fully grasp what had really happened. However, she wasn’t fooled. Everything in the nervous behavior of the secretary and in Samson's attitude screamed to her that there was more than met the eye. The young woman’s lipstick, once perfectly applied, was now visibly smudged. Panicked, she quickly left the office, leaving Gloria alone with Samson.

Samson, his eyes fixed on his papers, made a swift gesture to wipe something from the corner of his lips. When he felt Gloria’s penetrating gaze on him, he couldn’t ignore the question that followed:

— What just happened with your secretary? she asked in a cold tone.

The silence that settled was charged with tension. Samson slowly raised his head and locked his eyes with Gloria’s, his face impassive.
