Chapter 5 (pt-2)

Orion thought Alex would mock him about this or give a sarcastic reply, but there was no such thing happening. The man seemed to be too busy with the file to notice anything.

“Help yourself, it is supposed to be in the archives.” Orion made a salute mimic and then went out of the office. Alex did not move until the footsteps became silent. He waited a bit more till the place was clear. After a minute, it seemed there was none close to the door of the office. Alex put down the file and watched the whiteboard.

His eyes browsed on the colored folders. He reached for the plain green-looking one at the end and took it out.

“I know it is you, but how do I prove it?” He muttered to himself as he put the file on the wooden desk and spread out the papers in it as much as possible. There were several photocopied papers here. The information was all on 100 faces.

“They are all incomplete for anyone.” Alex watched the papers. His mind knew this was a hard case to prove, and there would be pressure from the top pretty soon, as Liam Foster is a big man in the city.

“You went for multiple occupations, but this time a construction company. Why? Why is this man so relevant to you?” Alex watched the picture where he put Liam Foster on.

“What I do not understand is … what were you doing in an abandoned alley so late at night?” He took one dart from the desk and threw it toward the board where Liam Foster’s picture was hung. He was wearing a gray suit in the picture with a glass that slides almost at the edge of his nose.

“Is this a murder for revenge or a murder for justice? What did you do, Liam Foster? ... Construction company...” He took the file of Liam Foster again.

“You are hiding something here.” He bites his bottom lip as he watches the picture again.

“Construction company…. Construction company…. What did you do? Did you take someone’s land? Or did you kill someone?” His right hand reached for the phone. He clicked a few buttons and waited for it to answer. As soon as he heard the call connecting, he didn’t wait for even a hello.

“Hey kid, bring me every detail on the construction work of Porters Central Construction Company…” He waited for a bit before continuing.

“Make sure to get all the latest ones... The ones handled by Liam Foster, those are important.” His eyes were stuck on the whiteboard while he talked.

“Yes, sir, I will get to it right away.” Samantha’s voice replied from the other side before Alex hung up the phone.

“If I want to find 100 faces first, I should find the reason why he killed all of you.” He threw a few more darts, each landing on the victims.

“I am confident all of you are connected. You did something to him or….” He tilted his head, watching the pictures with the corner of his eyes.

“Or someone…” His hand reached for the glass ball, which he used as a paper holder. Alex tossed the weight as a ball in his hand.

Samantha raised her hand and knocked at the fogged glass door. She waited as impatiently with her right hand inside the pocket. Her left one had a small notepad. She had a job. Inform the medical report to Alex on paper. That man wouldn’t check his phone. Thus, Samantha had double work dropped on her head. It is somewhat of a hassle. Her eyes went to the notice board on the door.

“Wear protection at all times. Emily Hayes office.” Samantha thought there would be something like the lab or forensic something to be written, but Dr. Emily has it titled her way. Something that makes a question on her mind every time she visits this place.

“I wondered when you will arrive.” A woman with scrubs opened the door.

She had blond hair when she opened the door. Her hair was well tucked inside the cap with a bit showing from the front.

“Is Dr. Hayes inside? I need the reports.” She showed the notepad in her hand. It was easy to understand who sent her there. Is Alex impatient for the report? The one named Ana smiled and let her get in the room.

“Dr. Hayes is almost done with the preliminary check; you can come in.” She smiled, pointing at the scrubs.

Samantha wore the scrubs and tucked her hair inside the rubber cap. She checked the mirror to see if it was properly tucked in. Her hands went inside her pocket and took out a white-colored balm. The smell of dead bodies can be unpleasant for the young ones. Samantha learned it on her first day. When she entered and had the urge to puke all over. She rubbed the strong balm on her nose before putting the surgical mask on her face. The last were the shoes to cover before her hand went to the second door. This one was transparent but a little blurry.

She can see the figures moving inside, just not in detail. Samantha slowly opened the door. As soon as she opened the door, a smell of pungent odor hit her nose. The cream was helping to keep her steady, but the smell of fat was mixed with the cleaning chemicals. Still, there was not enough to clean the human body smell. Samantha was led to sit behind the glass room. She was not allowed to enter the second room where Dr. Hayes stood talking to her assistants. Her back was turned to Samantha.

Ana smiled at Samantha and entered the lab. She interrupted Hayes and pointed at Samantha, who was looking at the body. She was sitting in the toxicology lab. Most of the chemical analysis is done in this part of the room, while the direct work on the dead body is done on the other side. Emily turned and watched the girl seated, waiting with her legs together, set properly on the chair. Emily smirked, amazed at the nervousness of the girl. Alex has her on her tiptoes, around the clock. She walked closer to the body.

Emily waved at Samantha to get her attention.

“Are you here for the report on the body or the area?” Her voice was a bit machine-like due to the voice passing from the speaker.

Samantha blinked her eyes in confusion; she was confused at first, for Alex did not give her any details on this. Then she decided to rely on not taking any risks.

“Both of them, please, and if possible, please give what you have found on the mask as well.” Emily nodded in satisfaction.

She was impressed with the child. Both their eyes moved to the dead on the silver table. Liam Foster was stitched back from the front and covered with a dark blue blanket to the neck. The man who was drenched on the side with his blood is now clean and looks as if he were sleeping. However, there was coldness on his face. The warmth of life was no longer present. Emily’s voice resonated with the speaker.

“Make sure to write the details I speak of, or else the man there will have your head.” Samantha nodded in determination as she took out the pen from her pocket and took it closer to the empty page.
