First Day at Work

When Serianne first descended to earth, she was shocked. That was the first time she sees the mortal realm before her eyes. Not to mention the humans around her. As an angel, she didn't know much about humans. In fact, she couldn't care less. But since her mission is in earth, she is forced to learn a thing or two about mortals.

Here, disguise is everything. Serianne hides her white wings. She can't expose her identity as an angel so she can blend well with humans. It's not just her. She knows that demons hide their horns and disguise as humans as well. They could be everywhere.

Serianne fakes her identity as a 23 years old woman who just arrived in Aetheris City as a new citizen. She has prepared her fake identity card and birth certificate. She also has a fake driver licence just in case she needs to use a car to travel around. After all, she can't afford to spread her wings here. Other angels helped to cover for her so everything went smoothly so far.

Money is tight. She only has enough for her accommodation and cheap meals. The rest of the expense, she had to figure it out on her own. She had complained to the higher angels. They could at least give her enough to buy a whole mansion but she knows she's being ungrateful. She is here for a mission. Not for a vacation.

Serianne settles in a decent apartment in the city. The rent is 100 gold coins per month which is a good deal. The place is not too big nor too small. It could fit two people which her new housemate, Cindy, live here for 5 years already.

"Are you excited for today?" Cindy asks, she has a wide grin on her face as she peeps from the doorframe of Serianne's room.

Serianne rolls her eyes. She doesn't understand a human's excitement sometimes but she manages a force smile. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Cindy let a low chuckle. She steps into the room with a playful jump. "Oh, Seri...I'm so jealous. I still can't believe that you got the job at Aetheris Academy."

Serianne shuts the closet. Her fingers twirl along the black necktie which she struggles to. Angel doesn't necessarily wear a necktie so this is quite a challenge for her the first thing in the morning. To avoid suspicion, she pretends like she knows what she's doing when Cindy is watching.

After pulling some strings, Serianne managed to get a job as a teacher in Aetheris Academy, a prestige school which attended by rich people. It's located in the heart of Aetheris, where tourists come and go. Going there means drawing a lot of attention which is her goal. She needs to hunt the devils after all.

"If you're jealous, why didn't you apply the job there?" Serianne managed the necktie, though it looks a bit messy.

"Nah...I don't want to." Cindy plops herself on the bed and swings her slender legs. Her nightgown from last night is loose over her shoulders. "I'm happy with my current job. There's someone I like there." She grins like a pervert. There's a hot man at her workplace which is the main reason why she's eager for work everyday.

Serianne rolls her eyes. She feels a bit disgusted by how humans think sometimes. She faces the mirror and combs her white long hair. Then, she ties it into a ponytail. The teacher uniform is comfy and has a luxurious design. The golden and black fabric hugs her curves perfectly.

"Oh, what is this?" Cindy notices a long stick leaning at the side of the bed. She picks the metal and surveys with curiosity. It has a beautifully carved golden and white pattern along the metal surface.

Serianne turns around and her eyes widen. "Wait, that's—"

'My sword! If she removes the case, it's over!'

"A walking cane?" Cindy asks with a chuckle.

"Y-yes! It's my late mother's!" Serianne quickly snatches the 'cane' from her grasp. The round-head noble cane falls between her fingers tightly like her life depends on it. She takes a deep breath before staring at Cindy with sternful eyes. "It's not polite touching someone else's belonging without permission. Didn't your parents teach you that?" She accidentally let her angel pride out.

But Cindy doesn't take that as an offense. She thinks of that as a soft scolding. "Yeah, sorry, Serianne. I didn't realise how precious the cane is for you." She rubs the back of her head and let out a bitter smile.

Serianne doesn't know Cindy for a long time yet. They only know each other for two weeks but Cindy acts like they're besties, probably because of her cheerful and friendly nature or the feeling of finally having someone to talk to in her apartment. Regardless, Serianne is grateful to have a kind human by her side. At least she can learn more about humans from Cindy.

"Oh great. I'm going to be late." Serianne tucks the cane into her belt and grabs her bag. She quickly rushes out of the room and puts on her shoes.

"Good luck on your first day!"

Cindy's voice faints into the background as Serianne closes the door behind her and runs towards the elevator. It's early in the morning but there are a lot of people going for work already.

Aetheris Academy is quite far from her home so Serianne has to take a public transportation. She has learned how to take a bus during her first week in earth. During the trip, she observes every human beings in her surroundings. Some are energetic, some look bored while some other look sleepy like they haven't got any sleep for three days straight.

'Humans sure are interesting. They have so many personalities.'

Serianne thought to herself while sitting in the bus. She wasn't interested in human beings at first but since she started living here, her cold-heart started to change. The icy walls around her crumble bits by bits. She quickly ignores the feeling and focuses back on her mission. This is just a temporary. She knows she isn't going to stay here for too long. She needs to purge the devils. After that, she will leave earth for good.

Aetheris Academy is not like other school. It's an elite school. Highest of the highests. All students enrolled are from rich family and high academic achievers. The academy is huge and equipped with many facilities. Getting a job in this school is undeniably an honor, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. People will think high of them if they work there.

But Serianne doesn't care. She's here not to have fun nor to enjoy the privileges. Aside from the high salary, she chose this job for the devils. Her divine senses warned her that a lot of devils nestle inside this academy. There's also a high possibility that one of the four kings are hiding here. Being a teacher in the academy is a gold opportunity for her to gather information and at the same time, purging all those wicked creatures from existence.

When she arrived in the main building, she can sees the students in the same uniform walking around for the morning class. To her surprise, most of the male students are tall and huge, almost like an adult. They're good-looking students who got many fans in the school. Serianne pays them no mind, although she can feel their gazes and catcalls on her, she quickens her pace.

She goes straight to the principal's office to report on her first day. The principal, Mr. James, a 45 years old man checks and verifies all necessary documents.

"Miss Serianne, right? Welcome to the Aetheris Academy. I'm Mr. James, the principal of this academy." Mr. James smiles and hands over a welcome 'gift' to her. The box contains books, files and other necessary teaching materials.

Serianne accepts the box wholeheartly. She manages to steal a glance, using her divine eyes to scan over Mr. James's form quickly. Her blue pupils glow. There's no trace of wicked aura. He's not a demon in disguise. She breathes a sigh of relief. Or else, the news of a new teacher murdered the principal of Aetheris Academy will be all over the platforms.

"Your schedule is in your phone. Everything else you need to know about the school is in the box. Make sure to give the books a read." Mr. James instructs sternly but kindly.

"Thank you, sir. I'll be doing my best." Her eyes wonder around the spacious office awkwardly. She's not familiar with a human school's system but being so clueless is embarrassing. "Uhh...I'll come to you if I need anything."

"Oh..." Mr. James let a low chuckle as he fiddles with his mustache. "No. Don't come to me. I'm a busy man. I have no time to entertain newbies."

Serianne looks dumbfound, confused. Did he just straight up say that he doesn't want to guide her, leaving her lost in darkness?

Before Mr. James could continue, the door is knocked. Firm footsteps ring behind the door before it creaks open, revealing a tall 27 years old man neat with slick back black hair.

"Ahh, right on time. Miss Serianne, if you need anything, you can come to him instead. This is Mr. Aiden, your guide and mentor."

Serianne's heart skipped a beat. She's never seen a human with this build. The man looks like he belongs to another world. It's not just the students but the teachers in this school are also filled with handsome men.

The tall and muscular man named Aiden stares back at Serianne. His bloody red eyes look cold and emotionless as he assesses her whole being like a piece of meat. The suit accentuates every bit of his muscles perfectly. Why must he wears such a tight uniform in school? Does he want to tease the female students?

"Mr. Aiden, this is Miss Serianne. She's the new teacher. I hope you can guide her with the school system here. After all, our school is quite...unique." Mr. James smiles as he gestures Aiden to come closer.

Aiden doesn't show any emotion. He just approaches without saying a word. His red gaze never leaves hers as if he's considering whether she worths his time or not.

Serianne keeps staring at him, not because she's entranced by his look. Hell no. She has no time for some silly romance thing. Her blue eyes glow as she searchs for any sign of demonic trace from Aiden. Sensing none, her body relaxed.

A small smirk is carved across Aiden's lips, erasing his cold look from earlier. He extends a hand as a welcome gesture. "I'm Aiden."

"Serianne." Serianne accepts his hand in a friendly manner, believing Aiden poises her no threat. The tenses from her body disappeared. At least she knows who to refer to if she wants to know something.
