Chapter 11
Anna (Aviana)
The cold metal of the pistol pressed against my head.
I held my breath, my heart surprisingly steady as Duncan stared into my soul, waiting for an answer.
"I don't like to wait , Anna." He said, his voice l disturbingly calm.
"I don't know why you want me to say, maybe ask Roberto about my past," i shot back, meeting his gaze head on without flinching. "I was an orphan who spent my teen years selling and pushing drugs. Picked up a few tricms from the trade." I spat, clenching my fists, glaring at him. He was lucky I was under the law now. He'd be dead by now
Duncan smirked, amusement dancing in my eyes.
"Interesting…"
Without another word, he stoód, tucking his gun in his holste. Turning away, be strode to his desk, stopping a few feet from the window as he poured himself a drink..
"Welcome to the family, Anna. You did good." His tone was almost approving. "Go to your room and clean up. We have some work to attend to later this evening,"
"That's it?" I managed to pull myself up from the ground.
My throat was still sore but I could speak without much pain now.
He paused, glancing at me over his shoulders with an amused look in his eye,
"Would you like more trials?" He asked, turning his head to look at me in question.
I shook my head faster than I intended to. "No,"
"Then go to your room." He said, his voice hardening as he drank from his whiskey glass.
I stared at him in disbelief then stormed out, my mind reeling. The man was a bastard!
I had fucked up. I had let my anger show. I had lost control.
I had to do my breathing exercise.
"Motherfucker!" I muttered under my breath, my fit clenching. The cold looks in his eyes had destabilized me. It wasn't the first time I had seen a cold blooded killer's eyes. In fact, I was sorrounded by them most of my life but it was the first time I had seen it so potent. One minute it wasn't there and the next, I saw a beast with no heart starting at me with the intent to kill.
I looked up and the bitch Sabrina was staring at me with her eyes narrowed in what I could only describe as absolute hatred.
As soon as our eyes met, she abandoned the conversation she was having with one of the men in the house and stormed forward towards me.
"What the hell are you doing back here?"
"I live here now," I smirked.
Her eyes narrowed further
"You are supposed to be…"
"What ? Dea?" I asked, a wicked smirk on my lips as I stared her down. She was short as a leprechaun so it was easy to tower over her small frame.
Anger painted its hues on her face and her hands clenched into fists.
"Sorry, but I'm going to be here a long time and you better start getting used to it,"
She glared and stepped toward, getting in my space and face, well in this case my breast…
"You have no idea what you are messing with, girl. I will tear you apart and feast on your skin," she growled.
Feast on my skin? A little dramatic but I didn't expect anything less from a leprechaun.
I didn't have time to respond when a familiar voice cut sharply.
"That's enough Sabrina,"
I stepped aside and turned around to find Levi glaring daggers at Sabrina.
"Don't you have better things to do like sucking the Bossess dick. Leave the human alone."
Human? The hell? Weren't we all that?
I frowned in confusion, looking between them.
Was this some kind of odd catch phrase from them or did they really think they were better than me but reducing me to 'human' instead of calling me by my name..
"Whatever." Sabrina huffed and stormed off towards the direction I had come from.
Did Sour face just defend me?
Levi turned around without another word and walked off.
I sighed and made my way into my room.
The urge to throw something took over me.
The fucking bastard!
I let out a calming breath.
"I'm okay, I'm okay!"
I breathed.
"I'm calm,"
I let out another sigh.
"Calm as a stream, high as a bird, calm as a stream, high as a bird."
I took deep breath before feeling my anger dissipate.
I still hated everyone here but at least I didn't feel like kicking the whole operation to the curb and blowing his head off.
Without thinking more, I quickly got into the shower and washed my body clean.
Four men had killed my mother that day.
Three more to go and they were all connected to this place somehow.
I had spent my entire life trying to find them and find them, I would.
I had to find a way to gain Duncan's trust so I could dig for information but I had to be careful as shit or I'd be a headline in no time.
The only headline I was trying to make was shutting this place down and finding out the truth about who my mother was to these people and how she'd gotten mixed up with the Mafia.
Years of studying them had gotten me nowhere.
As soon as I finished showering,I put on fresh new clothes. I would have to go to my apartment to get more clothes and shoes.
Thankful, I had my feelings days on Sundays when I didn't have to come into work
As soon as I dressed up in jeans and a hoodie, I sauntered out of my room, my main purpose, to wavesdrop.
I walked through the maze of the hallway and, wondering where everybody was. I somehow stumbled in the kitchen after several minutes of walking around.
"Hello," an unfamiliar voice greeted from the doorway and I turned abruptly to find a pretty girl with blonde curly hair, staring back at me with kind big brown eyes.
"Hi, I'm Anna, I'm new."i waved awkwardly.
"I know. Everyone's been talking about you." she grinned
