Chapter 14

Anna

I froze, staring at Duncan. He looked like angry, or at least I thought he did. it was hard to tell, he barely ever showed any expression except for disapproval and his occasional smirk.

The tension in the room thickened, pressing down on my chest like a tangible weight.

My cheeks burned as I wondered how long he'd been watching me. Suddenly, the shorts I had felt comfortable in just a minute ago, felt like a thong cutting accross my ass.

I felt exposed.

I swallowed as I opened my mouth.

"Did you want something?" I broke the silence.

He took a step closer then as if reconsidering, stopped.

"Where did you learn those moves?" He asked, curiousity evident in his otherwise impassive face.

Gah, he was so hard to read. We couldn't get be more like Lucas or Sabrina?

I could tell he was trying not to stare at my boobs but they were very prominent and had been my selling point for years. Avoiding them was difficult, especially in a sports bra.

"Oh, I used to fight in an underground boxing ring. It paid the bills," I shrugged

His brows lifted slightly in intrigue, surprised by my confession.

"Just how many lives have you lived, Anna Reed?" he asked, a hint of amusement lacing his tone.

The question sounded loaded, like there was something hidden besides the obvious. It was weird especially since I was still trying to give him the illusion that I was harmless but Mafia material.

I wasn't sure how to respond to his question, so I didn't. I didn't want to put myself at risk by over explaining myself

His stare pinned me In place, almost like an invisible sink-sand, wicked and pulling.

As if the tension wasn't already unbearable, it grew heavier, making it difficult to breath

The silence stretched on uncomfortably with his stare unwavering and almost x-ray like.

Unable to take the intensity, I cleared my throat."I'm done if you need to use the gym,"

He said nothing. Just watched me.

Slowly, I took off my gloves and dropped them on one of the gym machines.

'I will take my leave now," I whispered and walked past him.

His sander wool mixed with chocolate cologne wafted into my nose and I had to stop myself from letting out a moan.

As soon as I was outside again, I breathed out, almost like I had been holding my breath without realizing it.

I hated what he did to me. What just one look, one gaze did. He was so intense. How was I supposed to become his personal assistant and be around his energy at all times?

I let out a sigh and made my way back to my room.

This would be a great time to check his office and room for evidence I need.

Quickly, I made a detour towards his office but stopped when I found Levi talking to beautiful redhead in the hallway that led to Duncan's office

I turned around, about to go back to my room when I heard a tiny voice call.

"You must be Anna,"

Fuck! I cursed under my breath.

They'd caught me.

With a fake smile plastered on my face, I turned around to see the red head waking towards me, a sweet smile on her face.

"Hi, I'm Lily,"

She extended her head.

Now you close, I couldn't help but to be stunned by how beautiful she was

Green eyes, plump lips and straight but button nose and lashes too long to be fair.

"Hi, I'm…*

"Anna, I know. Sabrina told me all about you,"

I recoiled back.

"Uh, don't worry. I'm nothing like her. She wants to own the boss for herself. I just like sex,"

"Uh…" i blinked, wondering why she was so comfortable telling me this information,"

"No need to look horrified…" she chuckled, pulling my cheeks like I was some kind of naive kid she found cute.

She was at least as tall as me.

"Leave her alone, Lily. She's here to work not exchanging sex story with you,"

Sour face said from behind her.

Lily turned to him with an exaggerated pout.

"So, workers don't have sex?"

"You should be focusing on getting ready for the boss."

"It's only 7pm, why don't you go be a sour face somewhere else, huh?"

I snorted.

Sour face?

That was what I called him too.

"I will not be covering up for you this time," Levi said and then matched towards Duncan's office.

Lily stuck at her tongue at him before walking off.

"So, what brings a pretty girl like you to a place like this?" She turned to me.

"I could ask you the same," I shot back.

"Oh, I'm just one of the bosses favorite girls." She winked.

I forced a neutral expression even as my stomach twisted, one of his favorite girls?

Why was she so okay with that?

Lily smirked, clearly enjoying my reaction that I thought I had hidden well.

I shrugged feigning indifference. "God for him,"

She laughed a rich throaty laugh.

"Oh, I like you already,"

She looped her arms, startling me. I wasn't a particularly a fan of people touching me.

"We should be friends," she suggested.

Friends? With one of Duncan's girls? That seemed risky but then again, they probably knew intimate details about him that others wouldn't know and the best way to find out was being around them

"I'd love to," i grinned.

As she turned me towards the opposite direction, I came face to face with Duncan, who was standing at the hallway, starting at both of with narrowed gaze.

Lily jumped.

"Oh my goodness, Boss, how long have you been thee?*

"Long enough," Duncan said.

Lily chuckled.

"I'll go get ready now. Sorry, Anna. Maybe we can catch up next time?"

"Sure," I smiled awkwardly as I watched her walk past me.

I stood in place for an awkward amount of time before moving along and walking past Duncan, holding my breath.
