Seraphina, still in her ridiculously heavy ball gown, skidded past a servant.
"OUT OF MY WAY, I'M IN SURVIVAL MODE!"

She cheered.
"YES! RUN, SERAPHINA, RUN!"
Genevieve, still covered in wine, was in shock.
"What… what is she doing?!"

Seraphina leaped over a chair.
BAD IDEA.
She crashed straight into the buffet table.
Plates, glasses, and an entire roasted boar flew into the air.
A noble screamed.
"MY FOOD!"
Seraphina scrambled up.
Lucien was getting closer.
"Lady Nightshade." His voice was cold. "Enough."

Seraphina ran for the nearest exit.
Unfortunately, it was a balcony.
Even more unfortunately?
It was on the third floor.
Lucien grabbed her wrist.
She panicked.

She jumped.

Alexander and Damian were chatting.
"So, Lucien seems unusually tense tonight," Alexander mused.
Damian nodded. "I wonder wh—"
A screaming Seraphina fell from the sky.

Before Seraphina hit the ground, someone caught her.
Strong arms wrapped around her waist.
She blinked.
She was in Damian's arms.
He smirked.
"Well, well. Falling for me already?"
Seraphina whacked his chest.
"I WAS TRYING TO ESCAPE DEATH!"
Alexander sighed.
"…Why is it always her?"
Lucien appeared on the balcony above.
His gaze was deadly.
"Bring. Her. Back."
Seraphina grabbed Damian's collar.
"I SWEAR TO THE GODS, IF YOU DON'T RUN, I'LL MAKE YOU REGRET IT."
Damian?
He grinned.
"Oh? Now this sounds fun."
And just like that?
He ran.
