Chapter 69: The Great Escape (Or So She Thought)
Seraphina had exactly two minutes of freedom before chaos found her again.
—
The Perfect Exit Plan
Seraphina and Lila slipped out of the ballroom, unseen.
"Where are we going?" Lila whispered.
Seraphina smirked.
"A secret passage I found last week. Leads straight to the gardens."
Lila grinned.
"I love how you always have an escape route."
Seraphina patted her shoulder.
"Experience."
—
Meanwhile, Back at the Ballroom…
Lucien and Evander were still brawling.
Damian had somehow joined in.
Nobles screamed. Guards panicked. Someone set a table on fire.
The host of the party, a distressed-looking Duke, sobbed into his wine.
"Why does this always happen?!"
—
Just When Seraphina Thought She Was Free…
She and Lila sprinted into the dark gardens.
Lila sighed happily.
"Ah, fresh air. Freedom. No—"
"SERAPHINA!"
They both froze.
Oh no.
—
The Hunter Appears
Seraphina slowly turned.
Lucien stood there, shirt half-unbuttoned, sleeves rolled up, looking furious.
Seraphina sighed.
"…How did you get here so fast?"
Lucien crossed his arms.
"Because I know you, obviously."
Lila snorted.
"You're like a bloodhound for her."
Lucien ignored her.
"You ran."
Seraphina blinked innocently.
"…Did I?"
Lucien stepped closer.
"You always run."
Seraphina backed up.
"And yet, you always find me. Strange, huh?"
—
Caught! (Again.)
Lucien suddenly grabbed her wrist.
Seraphina gasped.
"Excuse you—"
Lucien pulled her close.
"You shouldn't run from me."
Seraphina felt her heartbeat stutter.
Lila sighed.
"Great, now I'm third-wheeling."
—
The Tension Breaks… Kinda.
Seraphina yanked her hand away.
"Look, I just wanted one night without drama."
Lucien raised a brow.
"Too bad."
Seraphina groaned.
"Of course."
