Chapter 77: A Villainess Decides to Cheat (And Still Fails)

Seraphina had had enough.

Lucien always won.

Always outwitted her.

Always looked amused while doing it.

It was time for drastic measures.

She was going to cheat.

Step 9: The 'I Refuse to Lose' Plan

Seraphina slammed a book onto the table.

Lila blinked.

"…What's this?"

Seraphina grinned.

"A spellbook."

Lila raised an eyebrow.

"A spellbook?"

Seraphina nodded.

"If I can't win with my own power, I'll use magic."

Lila sighed.

"Cheating with magic? Classy."

Seraphina flipped through the pages.

"I just need one spell to give me the advantage."

Lila peered over her shoulder.

"…Seraphina, these are love spells."

Seraphina did not blink.

"Yes."

Lila stared.

"Oh my gods, you've lost it."

Seraphina smirked.

"If Lucien keeps distracting me, I'll make him the one distracted."

Lila shook her head.

"This is so going to backfire."

Step 10: Execution of the 'This Will Totally Work' Plan

Seraphina prepared the spell carefully.

She read the incantation.

She mixed the ingredients.

She double-checked the side effects.

(…She probably should've triple-checked.)

That night, Seraphina strode into Lucien's study again.

Lucien immediately looked amused.

"Back for round two, love?"

Seraphina ignored him.

She had mixed the spell into a cup of tea.

She placed the cup in front of him, smiling sweetly.

"I made this for you."

Lucien raised an eyebrow.

"You made me tea?"

Seraphina nodded.

"Yes."

Lucien's smirk grew.

"Are you trying to poison me?"

Seraphina scowled.

"Just drink it."

Lucien chuckled.

"Very well."

Two Minutes Later…

Seraphina waited.

She expected dazed eyes.

She expected a flushed face.

She expected Lucien to finally lose control.

Instead—

Lucien set the cup down.

"…That was quite good. Did you use cinnamon?"

Seraphina froze.

No.

No no no no no.

It didn't work?!

Lucien smirked.

"Oh dear. Did my little villainess try to enchant me?"

Seraphina gawked.

"How—How are you not affected?!"

Lucien chuckled.

"Darling, I've been drinking enchanted tea since before you were born. You'll have to try harder."

Seraphina wanted to scream.

Lucien: 9, Seraphina: 0

Lila, peeking through the doorway, cackled.

"I TOLD YOU IT WOULD BACKFIRE!"

Seraphina stormed out.

Lucien just chuckled.

"I adore you, love. Keep trying."

Seraphina cursed him to the heavens.

This was not over.
