The Silver team remained hidden in the shadows of Mizu no Sato, observing the Iwagakure Explosion Corps as they carefully set their traps. Every step was calculated, every move planned with precision. But despite their best efforts to stay out of sight, something had gone wrong.
Sight was the first to notice it. His eyes, sharp as ever, flicked to a nearby movement—one of the Iwagakure ninja had noticed him. At first, it seemed like just a glance, a passing moment. But then he saw it: a subtle signal sent by the Iwagakure ninja to a few others nearby. They were aware of his presence.
"Shit," Sight whispered under his breath, quickly retreating deeper into the shadows. His pulse quickened, the urgency of the situation settling in. He couldn't afford to be caught. Not now.
But before he could make another move, the silence was shattered.
The explosion hit without warning. A blast of force erupted near the base of the tree where Sight had been hiding moments before, sending splinters of wood and dirt into the air. The shockwave knocked Sight back, but he quickly recovered, rolling to his feet and drawing a breath as the smoke cleared.
"Explosion Jutsu," Sight muttered, recognizing the signature move from the Iwagakure Explosion Corps.
In the next instant, Sight's hand flew through a series of hand seals, his chakra quickly gathering as he activated his defensive jutsu, Revolving Heaven. His body spun into a blur of motion, the chakra around him swirling in a protective dome of energy as debris rained down from the explosion. The technique generated a rotating barrier that deflected most of the incoming projectiles, but the force still made his bones ache, his body bruised from the blast.
He hadn't expected them to move so quickly, but he couldn't afford to hesitate. Sight pushed off from the ground, his eyes scanning the area for his attackers.
The Iwagakure ninja had circled around him, flanking him from all sides. One of them, the leader, stepped forward, eyes narrowing. He was tall, with a scar running across his cheek, and wore a sinister smile.
"Well, well," the leader said, his voice dripping with malice. "Looks like we've got ourselves a little spy."
Sight's mind raced. They knew he was here, but he still had a chance to outmaneuver them. He couldn't fight them head-on—not yet, anyway. Not without backup.
His hands flew through more hand seals, his thoughts already shifting to his next move.
"Embers! Verdants! Whisper! We're compromised!" Sight shouted, his voice carrying across the battlefield. His team's names echoed through the trees as he activated his Wind Release: Great Breakthrough, sending a powerful gust of wind toward the Iwagakure ninja. The wind tore through the forest, blowing branches and debris in every direction, causing the enemy to stumble back.
"Sight, fall back!" Silver's voice came through the comms, calm and clear. "Get to the rendezvous point."
Sight didn't hesitate. With his chakra reserves still high, he pushed off the ground, sprinting toward the nearest cover, but the Iwagakure ninja weren't done yet. They were closing in fast.
The leader of the group barked orders, his voice sharp and commanding. "Don't let him get away! He's just one man!"
Sight's eyes flicked to the nearby trees. If he could just make it there, he'd be able to disappear into the foliage. He darted through the underbrush, the sounds of the explosion corps hot on his heels.
But just as he thought he'd gained some ground, a heavy weight hit him square in the chest. He staggered, feeling a rush of air leave his lungs, but quickly recovered, twisting and spinning to face his attacker.
The Iwagakure ninja were relentless, their explosive jutsus creating distractions at every turn, forcing Sight to stay on the defensive.
Suddenly, a bright flash of light cut through the smoke. Silver had arrived.
"Embers, now!" Silver's voice rang out, and Hiroshi, codenamed Embers, immediately moved into action. The moment Sight had created an opening, Embers launched a barrage of fireballs, each one a precise strike aimed at the Iwagakure ninja surrounding Sight. The heat from the jutsu forced the enemy to scatter, their plans disrupted for a moment.
"Good work, Embers!" Sight called, his breath labored.
"Get moving, Sight," Silver said, his tone commanding. "We'll take it from here."
As Sight took a moment to catch his breath, he signaled for the rest of the team to fall back. The explosion corps might have had the upper hand at first, but with Silver and the rest of the team now fully engaged, they were ready to turn the tide.
Sight didn't need to be told twice. He broke into a sprint, quickly joining up with the rest of the team as they made their way through the dense forest. The enemy would be on their tail, but Silver's team was experienced—together, they were stronger than any single foe.
"We move out. Regroup, and keep moving forward," Silver said, his voice steady and calm despite the chaos around them.
As the team disappeared into the shadows, Sight couldn't help but feel a rush of adrenaline. This mission had just become a lot more complicated—but he knew one thing for sure: they were getting closer to the truth.
