Ella's face, which had been composed just moments before, turned ashen in an instant. Yet, reacting with lightning speed, she sprang to her feet and bolted forward.
With a sickening *thud*, Ella's legs gave way, and she crumpled to the ground. In a desperate move, she twisted around and fired her gun wildly into the void.
*Click, click, click* – the gun was empty, only the futile sound of the trigger being pulled echoing in the air. Ella let the weapon slip from her fingers, her eyes locking onto David as he approached, a phone in his hand.
"How did you know?" Ella's voice trembled. "Did you... did you do something to my girlfriend?"
Suddenly, as if powered by an unseen force, Ella launched herself at David. David stumbled back in fear, but before she could reach him, someone struck her down from behind.
Seeing Ella subdued, David knelt beside her, tapping her head with the barrel of his gun. "That bitch was quite the treat," he sneered. "Didn't know you had such a talent for training women, Ella. Always gets me going."
Ignoring the fury in Ella's eyes, David chuckled. "Oh, and by the way, it was that little slut who gave me your number. And don't think about your brothers avenging you. Once you're gone, they'll be mine. This will be my domain. And that pure, innocent girlfriend of yours? She came to me herself. Ha."
As Ella struggled in disbelief, David added with a cruel smile, "Her orders were clear – first your eyes, then the rest. Guess she hasn't forgotten that incident."
"Boss, it's done," a minion reported. David, who had been waiting to hear Ella's screams, cursed. "You idiots! He didn't even make a sound! What the hell did you do?" After berating the man, he turned back to Ella, who was biting her lip so hard it bled, yet not a sound escaped her.
David was impressed. "Ella, in all my years in this business, I've never seen someone as tough as you. I respect that. Any last words? I'll make sure they're carried out."
Ella's empty eye sockets seemed to focus on David. "You're better than me, David. You just lack the right allies. My vice-leader is a true talent; use him well. And that woman... if you truly love her, take care of her. If not, give her enough money to live out her days in peace."
David was taken aback by Ella's words, sensing the depth of her resignation. "Alright, I'll see to it. Rest now."
Ella smiled faintly, her body relaxing completely. David knew that even if he didn't pull the trigger, Ella wouldn't want to live in this world anymore.
*Drip, drip, drip* – rain began to fall, accompanied by thunder and lightning. David raised his gun, pointing it at Ella.
*Bang* – the shot rang out, and Ella's body went limp. "Let's go. Bury the body properly," David ordered, leaving three men to the task.
As they finished and descended the hill, a bolt of lightning struck directly at Ella's grave, hitting the headstone. A wisp of smoke rose, then vanished into the night sky.
