The midday sun bore down on the town of Shells Town, casting long shadows over the dusty streets. The tavern doors creaked as they swung shut behind Luffy and Dikun, who now walked side by side. Despite the lingering murmurs and curious stares of the townsfolk, Luffy remained as carefree as ever, while Dikun's crimson eyes flickered with mild curiosity.
"You really don't think before you act, huh?" Dikun remarked, his tone flat.
Luffy laughed. "Nope! But that's why I need someone like you!"
Dikun remained silent, observing the boy's grin. There was something disarming about Luffy's presence. Most people would hesitate to challenge someone like Dikun, but not him. It wasn't ignorance — it was absolute confidence.
"Why me?" Dikun asked finally. "You don't even know what I'm capable of."
"I don't have to," Luffy replied. "You're strong, aren't you? And I can tell you're not a bad guy."
Dikun scoffed softly. "Your instincts are reckless."
"Maybe. But they're usually right."
Luffy's unwavering belief in his own judgment struck Dikun as both foolish and admirable. Still, he wouldn't follow someone just because they smiled through life.
"If you want me to join your crew, you'll have to prove you're worth it," Dikun said firmly. "No empty words. Show me."
Luffy beamed, clenching his fists. "A fight?"
Dikun shook his head. "Strength isn't just about fighting. You said you want to be Pirate King. That means standing up for what you believe in — even when it's difficult."
Luffy tilted his head in confusion. "Huh?"
Dikun's eyes gleamed. "Follow me."

The Weight of a Decision
The streets grew quieter as Dikun led Luffy toward the town square. Towering above the villagers was a Marine outpost, its white stone walls gleaming beneath the sun. Marines in crisp uniforms stood at the entrance, their rifles slung lazily over their shoulders. The flag of the World Government fluttered above.
"What are we doing here?" Luffy asked, eyeing the building.
Dikun didn't answer. His gaze shifted to the side, where a group of villagers stood anxiously. Among them was a frail elderly man, trembling as a marine officer berated him. The officer's blue coat was decorated with gold trim, signifying his higher rank.
"You think you can get away with shorting the tribute, old man?" The officer sneered, his hand gripping the elderly man's shoulder tightly. "Pirates aren't the only threat. The Marines protect this town, and we demand payment in return."
"I-I swear, sir! The storm destroyed half my crops!" the old man stammered. "I've given everything I could!"
The officer grinned cruelly. "Then give more. Or perhaps your granddaughter could offer her service instead?"
The surrounding villagers lowered their heads, afraid to intervene. Even though they despised the officer's actions, the Marines held absolute authority.
Dikun's jaw clenched. This wasn't justice. It was extortion.
"Luffy," Dikun said, his voice low. "This is your test."
Luffy blinked. "Huh?"
"Stand aside, and no one will think less of you. Interfere, and you'll make the Marines your enemy." Dikun's eyes bore into Luffy's. "What will you do?"
There was no hesitation.
"I'll help them." Luffy's voice was firm, his grin gone. "That's not even a question."
Without waiting, Luffy marched forward, his straw hat casting a shadow over his eyes.

The First Confrontation
"Oi!" Luffy's voice rang out, drawing the attention of the crowd. "Let the old man go."
The marine officer turned, clearly amused by the interruption. "Who the hell are you supposed to be?"
Luffy grinned. "I'm Monkey D. Luffy. And I'm gonna be King of the Pirates."
The officer's laughter echoed through the square, joined by the chuckles of his subordinates. "A pirate? Here? You've got guts, kid. But you picked the wrong day to act like a hero."
Luffy didn't flinch. "I don't care who you are. If you hurt people just because you have power, then you're not a real marine."
The officer scowled. "You little—"
Before he could finish, Luffy's body twisted. His fist stretched impossibly far, rubber limbs extending as he delivered a powerful punch straight to the officer's face. The blow sent the marine flying, crashing into a nearby wall. The villagers gasped, staring wide-eyed at the young pirate.
"G-Gomu Gomu no…?" one of the marines stammered.
"He's a Devil Fruit user!"
The remaining marines scrambled to draw their weapons, but Luffy was already on the move. His fists swung in wide, unpredictable arcs, knocking down each opponent with ease. Despite the chaos, the grin on his face never wavered.
Dikun watched in silence, crimson eyes unreadable. Luffy's strength was undeniable, but it was his resolve that stood out most. There was no fear. No regret. Only the will to stand up for what was right.

A Captain Worth Following
Within minutes, the marines lay sprawled across the square, groaning in pain. The officer coughed, his pride shattered. Luffy approached the elderly man, grinning once more.
"You okay, old man?"
The man nodded, tears welling in his eyes. "Thank you… thank you so much."
Luffy scratched the back of his head. "No problem!"
Dikun stepped forward, his expression unreadable. "You understand what you've done, don't you?"
Luffy shrugged. "Yeah. But I'd do it again."
For a moment, Dikun said nothing. Then, to the surprise of the crowd, a rare grin spread across his face.
"I guess you really are worth following."
Luffy blinked. "So… you'll join my crew?"
Dikun nodded. "As your Vice-Captain."
The townspeople erupted in cheers, and Luffy laughed joyfully. The Straw Hat Pirates had officially gained their first recruit.
But unknown to them, the ripples of their actions had already begun to spread.
The Silent Commander had taken his first step.
