Faced with the arrogant doorman, his nostrils flaring toward the sky, Old Jack quickly put on a fawning smile.
"Younger brother, these two children are this year's work-study students from our village."
As he spoke, he handed over two official certificates issued by the Spirit Hall.
The doorman took one look at the papers and immediately burst into laughter, his tone dripping with mockery.
"Haha! What a joke! A little village like yours producing geniuses? Let me see... Blue Silver Grass with innate full soul power? What kind of scam is this? And what's this? A tadpole spirit with innate full soul power? What's that good for? Raising tadpoles to feed chickens and ducks? Hahaha! Could you be any more ridiculous?"
His disdainful tone made Ye Qiu fume with irritation. Old Jack's face also turned grim, but he forced himself to remain calm.
"These certificates were issued by the esteemed deacon of the Spirit Hall himself. How could we possibly dare to forge them?"
Hearing Old Jack try to use the Spirit Hall's name to pressure him, the doorman only became more arrogant.
"Hmph! Just because you say so? Innate full soul power—do you think it's as common as cabbage in your countryside? 'Holy Spirit Village'—more like 'Beggar Village' if you ask me!"
This insult instantly hit Old Jack's sore spot. His face flushed red with fury.
"The hell did you just say?!"
Thud!
The doorman instinctively stepped back, but his expression quickly turned vicious.
"What? You wanna fight?"
"Look at the rags you're wearing! Calling you beggars is already a compliment! Get lost!"
Before his words even finished, he raised a hand, aiming to shove Old Jack in the chest.
At that moment, Ye Qiu's right arm was instantly wrapped in black fibers, swelling slightly as it became filled with power.
However, before Ye Qiu could strike, Tang San had already stepped forward, blocking the doorman. The insults had thoroughly enraged him.
Tang San swiftly struck out with Mysterious Jade Hand. Due to his shorter height, his hand, which should have struck the doorman's elbow, instead latched onto his wrist.
Controlling Crane, Capturing Dragon!
Tang San's hand, which could wield a forging hammer, packed a serious punch. The doorman's face twisted in pain.
He immediately lifted his leg to kick Tang San in the face.
Whoosh!
Before Tang San could react, Ye Qiu stepped in. His foot, moving like a lightning-fast whip, struck the doorman's knee.
Thud!
The doorman let out a pained cry and collapsed onto his knees.
Ye Qiu didn't let up. Raising his black-gold fist, he swiftly delivered two punches straight to the doorman's eyes.
"AAAHHH!"
The doorman howled in agony, clutching his swollen, darkening eyes as he fell to the ground.
"Xiao San... Xiao Qiu... you..."
Old Jack stared in stunned silence at the two small figures standing protectively in front of him.
"You brats wanna die?!"
Getting beaten up by two kids in broad daylight—his eyes blackened in the process—filled the doorman with shame and fury. He roared and lunged at them.
Tang San's gaze turned icy.
"Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record—Third Rule: Once you confirm your opponent as an enemy, if they seek death, do not show mercy. Hesitation only brings future trouble."
Ye Qiu also sensed something. From the corner of his eye, he noticed Tang San subtly unlocking the safety on his hidden sleeve dart.
"Enough!"
At that moment, a hoarse voice rang out.
Ye Qiu's transformed arm and leg quietly returned to normal.
He knew this scene all too well—he recognized the person who had just arrived.
A man with half a protagonist template.
A man whose ambition exceeded his abilities.
A man doomed to fail—Yu Xiaogang, the so-called "Grandmaster"!
Tang San hesitated slightly, his hidden weapon action pausing.
The doorman also froze, then immediately wiped the rage off his face, replacing it with a sycophantic smile.
"Master, you've returned!"
Ye Qiu and Tang San turned to look.
Standing before them was a man in his forties or fifties, with short black hair and a stubbly face. He wore an old scholar's robe, looking somewhat disheveled. A gloomy aura surrounded him, as if burdened by past failures. Yet, despite his defeated demeanor, he carried an air of arrogance.
A contradiction of pride and despair.
In essence, a weakling who loved to act superior.
The so-called "Grandmaster" walked with stiff, mechanical movements. His disdain for others was even greater than the doorman's. He merely glanced at the beaten man before completely ignoring him.
Instead, he turned to Old Jack.
"Old sir, may I see the children's spirit awakening certificates?"
Ye Qiu opened his mouth, hesitated, then chose to remain silent.
Stopping him now would just seem suspicious.
But he had no intention of sticking around for what was coming next.
Looked like he'd have to find an excuse to slip away.
Seeing the arrogant doorman suddenly groveling, Old Jack immediately realized that this "Grandmaster" held a higher status and might actually help. Without hesitation, he handed over the certificates.
Yu Xiaogang glanced at the documents, his eyes showing surprise as he looked between Ye Qiu and Tang San—though his gaze lingered longer on Tang San.
Tang San clenched his fists.
For some reason, under Yu Xiaogang's scrutiny, he felt as if all his secrets had been laid bare.
Ye Qiu, however, remained indifferent.
Let fate's gears turn as they would.
He didn't harbor any inexplicable hatred toward Yu Xiaogang.
In a world where strength ruled, he wasn't a saint, nor a good person.
As long as others didn't cross him or stand in the way of his interests, he didn't care.
To climb up, someone else had to fall.
But Ye Qiu had no intention of being the one to fall.
He was sick of a mundane, three-point-one-line life.
"The certificates are real," Yu Xiaogang concluded after a moment. "Old sir, I apologize on behalf of the academy for what just happened."
He then added, "I will personally take these two children under my wing."
A simple apology was enough to satisfy Old Jack.
After all, the one apologizing might be a high-ranking soul master.
"Master, you're too kind! These two children will be in your care!"
"Mm. Rest assured."
Yu Xiaogang nodded coolly.
Old Jack bent down to instruct them.
"You two must behave at the academy. Grandpa Jack is heading back now."
Tang San nodded silently.
"Goodbye, Grandpa Jack! Be careful on the way back!"
Ye Qiu waved at Old Jack's departing figure.
Beside them, Yu Xiaogang shot the doorman a cold glare.
"This is the first and last time. Understand?"
"Y-Yes! Understood! Master, take care!"
Sweating profusely, the doorman bowed and scraped, hurriedly making way.
Yu Xiaogang then turned to Tang San and Ye Qiu, forcing an awkward smile onto his stiff face.
"Come. Let's go in."
He reached out, trying to grab their hands.
Ye Qiu swiftly dodged.
A single, middle-aged man with such a sallow complexion? Who knew what kind of unsanitary things those hands had touched?
Tang San, however, was caught.
Yu Xiaogang merely chuckled, unfazed.
As they walked through the academy, Ye Qiu grew increasingly restless.
Then, inspiration struck.
He suddenly raised his hand and loudly declared:
"Teacher! Where's the toilet? I need to take a huge dump!"
Yu Xiaogang's "wise and mysterious" expression stiffened.
Still, he kindly pointed the way.
Ye Qiu nodded, clutching his stomach.
"Teacher, can I have my spirit certificate back first? I'll report in on my own later, so you don't have to wait for me."
Yu Xiaogang smiled generously.
"No rush. Just come back quickly."
"Thank you, teacher!"
Ye Qiu turned and sprinted off, his face darkening.
Damn it, Yu Xiaogang, you meddling fool.
If you hadn't blabbed about Tang San's twin spirits in public, I wouldn't have had to resort to shit-escape technique.
