All along

Romeo stopped. Abruptly. He could not get the little kids out of his head. He changed back to his naked human form and sat under a tree by his right. In no time at all, he engaged himself in a 'Q and A'.

"Are they really going to die? I don't know. Could it have been a trick to send me away? But there is no need for that. She's way stronger. Then why did she threaten me like that? Maybe she was being considerate. But àwhy was she being considerate? She is part of a pack. It's not my pack. She knows it's not mine. Naturally, she should also be aware that I am a loner. Her job is for bottom rankers. If she influenced me into the pack, wouldn't I be the bottom feeder instead?"

He looked around him and noticed a tree that was slightly taller than the surrounding others. He walked towards that tree. He bent his knees, growled as he tensed and relaxed his leg muscles, then jumped.

Whoosh!

He landed on a solid branch halfway up the tree.

Thud!

The tree leaves shook violently as he landed on the tree branch.

He looked around him, then sniffed the air to ensure there was nothing of potential danger around him, before lying down on the branch. He crossed his legs and placed his palms behind his head, resting the latter on the former. He continued his self-conversation.

"She must have noticed I was a sigma, not an omega." He said with a smug grin on his face. "Those wolves though... their howl. They were actually werewolves, right? They should be. Then, should she not have just allowed her pack members to try to jump me? That's the natural procession of things. Especially among man-eaters. But what if she is not part of the pack?"

He blinked. He sat up.

 "Did I just get tricked?"

He could not believe his own ears. Some random chick just tricked him?

 "Me? Tricked?"

Two seconds passed as he processed it.

Then he burst into laughter.

"Mwahahaha... Is that even possible? I must be hungrier than I thought. Looks like I have to go hunting, don't I? Absolutely."

He jumped down, transformed to his wolf form and straight back to the village he went.

Within ten minutes, Romeo arrived at the village. He stopped outside the village like before. He sniffed the air and immediately picked up the wolf's scent. She was still alone. That was a good sign.

 "What's that weird smell though?"

There was this odd smell that did not quite feel right to him. It irritated his nose the way pepper did humans. He felt like sneezing. Something that he had never done in his life. He rubbed his nose to try to get rid of that sensation.

The wolf was no more near the villagers. He could smell and hear the villagers a little distance away from the nearly burnt out bonfire, arguing about some names or something similar. Maybe a child was recently conceived. As for the wolf, he could smell her near the outskirts of the village. She was just lying there, still in her wolf form. He walked around the village, and advanced towards the wolf, keeping close proximity to the safety of the trees that separated the village from the woods.

His plan was to get as near to her as possible before attacking her. It was hard to jump a werewolf since they had amazing sight even at night, a strong, distinct sense of smell and an incredible sense of hearing. So, he needed to mask his scent. Too bad he never paid enough attention to have successfully learned it.

 "Hey!"

Romeo felt a powerful hand grip his right shoulder. He froze. What the hell! He was barely halfway around to the other side where this man-eating wolf was.

And the irritating smell was back and stronger.

"Let's talk a little, shall we?"

The smell was getting stronger. The urge to sneeze grew with it.

The hand was increasing its applied force and was slowly pushing him to the ground. He was initially creeping as silently as he could towards the wolf that tricked him so he was already not standing straight. His knees were bent.

And he also quickly noticed another thing, it was getting harder for him to maintain his wolf-form. If the hand cold push him to the ground, and then he became human, he was done for.

"Shit!" He yelled and forcefully pushed back at the hand.

The owner of the hand wasn't fazed. The intensity slowly increased, the smell worsened and because Romeo was actively pushing back, they were at a stalemate for a few seconds.

"Achoo!" Romeo sneezed. At that exact moment, he turned into his human form.

But he was ready for the triggered transformation and had a plan for that inevitable eventuality.

As soon as he sneezed and became human, he immediately bent his right shoulder, causing him to lean to his right and rolled forward.

As he rolled, he grabbed the hand and bit into it, disregarding the horrible smell. He used this bref moment to also observe his attacker. It was a cloud of fog with a vague womanly shape. The hand that held him was the only tangible form, or at least so it seemed.

Anyway that didn't matter. Since he could at least bite into the hand, he was definitely not letting go.

The foggy figure moved that hand backwards, swinging Romeo in the air in the process. Then, swung forward and then upwards and to round it up, smacked him hard on the ground.

Boooom!

A small crevice appeared on the ground where Romeo landed.

"Nnnghh!" He groaned in pain. He must have popped a few ribs just now. But he didn't care. He was a werewolf, which meant he naturally had amazing regeneration and healing abilities.

The hand moved again, swinging and swaying Romeo in the breezy night air more violently. It disoriented him greatly, but he did not loosen his teeth grip. Instead, it tightened even more.

Booooom!!

He smashed into the earth again. Even the trees felt it this time.

The villagers felt it too. The ground beneath them vibrated, and reflexively, they looked beneath their feet, before turning to look at the direction the explosion came from.

"Nnnnnnnngghhh!!" This one really hurt. Immediately, before the hand could swing around again, Romeo turned to his wolf-form. His teeth lengthened, his jaw strengthened and he was heavier in this state, which meant the fog figure, whatever she might be and her hand had to exert more strength to move him.

As he felt the hand's muscles tighten, he clenched his strengthened jaw hard.

Crrkkk!

"Aaaaaaaaaah!!" A horrific scream came from deep inside the woods.

Blood oozed out the broken bone. Yes, bone, not hand. And it entered freely into Romeo's mouth and flowed into his throat.

It tasted like bile. It was so disgusting, that Romeo did something he had only ever done once before. He puked. Right into the bloody hand.
