CHAPTER 1

"Hello ma'am, this is for you." The postman said with a big broad starry smile as he pointed at the delivery receipt book. "Please sign here."

The clock was forward and the year was gobbling up, as It was the day of our second year anniversary already.

My wife, Isabella, had just received a letter from the postman that morning from an anonymous sender.

She wondered what it was as she stared at the envelope in curiosity. I was just at the dining, cleaning the chairs and arranging the tables which was part of what I did everyday.

"Johnson or whatever you are called, will you get out of my way you tattered thing!" That was my mother in-law, Mrs. June Rice.

Mrs June really hated me because, two years ago when I got married to her daughter, she had actually thought I was from a rich family. She thought I would be the saviour to her dying petty coffee store.

Only for her to realize later that I was not from a rich home. As a matter of fact, I had no inheritance under my name.

I was just a poor live-in son-in-law to Mrs. June. And she was right, I was actually looking tattered with my old and faded T-shirt, and partly torn trouser that I wore with a scuffed shoe.

I moved aside limping as fast as I could to get out of her way before she did the worst to me.

She going straight to Isabella to know what message exactly was given to her.

Isabella's hands trembled as she tore open the envelope. The moment her eyes landed on the photo inside, her expression twisted in disgust.

"What? What the hell is this?!" Her voice was sharp, filled with shock and fury.

I was startled by her loud voice and without hesitation, I shifted my attention towards her while I paused what I was doing.

Isabella's face was as hard as someone who had just received the worst news ever. I wanted to inquire.

Mrs. June rushed to her side, peering over her shoulder. Her lips curled into a sneer. "An ingrate! I always knew he was worthless, but to stoop this low?!"

I was so curious, what could have happened?

Before I could make sense of what was happening, Isabella stormed toward me, her heels clicking violently against the tiled floor. Her eyes were now burned with hatred.

WHACK!

I had no idea what was happening, the only thing I knew was that I was holding my cheek with one of my hands, nurturing the slap she had just given to me.

"What have I—" I tried to speak, but her glare cut through me like a blade.

"Shut your mouth you foolish thing!" Isabella snapped. "So this is what you do behind my back?"

She flinged a photo to my face, and continued the insult. I was actually not paying attention to the rest of her insults as I held the photo to confirm what was wrong.

"What the hell…" I whispered to myself as I saw myself, in bed with another lady I had never seen in my life.

Something was definitely wrong, the person in bed with the lady was looking exactly like me. However, I was not sure on how to convince Isabella that he was not me.

At that moment, I raised my head to try to explain it to Isabella—that the person in the photo was not me, but she had already left my sight.

Then I saw Mrs. June, smiling like someone who has won a lottery, she was walking towards me.

Could she have done this?

With a low tone, she said to me as she added salt to my injury, "I had never liked you, so you had better sign the divorce papers on that table and get your poor, useless self out of our life."

After her words to me, she turned and walked away, leaving me standing there—humiliated, broken, and utterly alone.

After a few minutes, I was still trying to recover from the humiliation when I heard someone's voice at the entrance.

"Mrs. June… Isabella!"

It was Haven Tyler, a tall and good-looking guy who was the General manager of both the Vax company and the Ben company. He was actually promoted not quite long to General manager.

He headed over Isabella who worked as an operation Manager for the Ben Company.

The Vax company was concerned with Real Estate, while the Ben company was concerned with Home Renovation. Although the both were separated, they were still under the ownership of the Ben family.

Haven was Mrs. June's wish for her daughter, Isabella. She had always liked him, probably because he promised to help her resurrect her almost dying coffee store, but it came with a price.

My cheek was still in grave pain when I asked, "what do you want here Haven?"

"It is "Mr. Haven" to you fool." He replied, then he saw the photo on the table which made him smile like he just got a contract. "You had better divorce Isabella, or more disasters shall befall you."

"Did you do this Haven?" Even when his perfume was almost choking me, I still asked curiously while pointing at the photo.

He was less worried about telling me the truth, as I was actually a nobody to be afraid of. "Of course, I made them fabricate that photo, and there is nothing you can do about it."

"How dare—"

"Oh my… Mr. Haven, what a pleasant surprise." I was about to express my fury when Mrs. June interrupted to welcome Haven. "I love how you smell."

She pushed me aside as she held his hand, taking him away from my sight. Isabella came out as well to welcome him.

"Hello Isabella." He went close to her, held her hand, and gave her what he brought for her. "Here, it's for you, it's worth two million dollars."

I was boiling in rage already, vibrating all over my body, like I could just get hold of him.

Mrs. June was so happy with the gift given to Isabella, she then pointed in my direction and said, "That poor fool cannot even afford a quarter of the price on your anniversary, you should divorce him already Isabella."

It was not long when they had all left for the house bar, my retarded phone vibrated, it was a message which I opened to know what it says.

"Why don't you come back home already son, you don't have to pass through this. Just come back and manage the businesses."
