Chapter Thirty-Seven: A Dangerous Line

Dan-Bi felt the heat of Jin-Seok's gaze searing into him.

Too close.

Too sharp.

Too dangerous.

Jin-Seok's fingers brushed his collar again, his touch feather-light but heavy with unspoken meaning.

"Why do you hesitate?" the prince murmured, tilting his head. "Why do your eyes betray something else—something you refuse to name?"

Dan-Bi's throat tightened.

For the first time, he had no immediate answer.

His mind raced, grasping for an escape, a deflection—anything—

But Jin-Seok was relentless.

"You are hiding something," the prince pressed, lowering his voice further. His hand shifted, ghosting against the curve of Dan-Bi's jaw. "And I intend to find out exactly what it is."

Dan-Bi's breath hitched—

A reaction he could not afford.

Jin-Seok smirked.

A sharp, knowing smirk.

Dan-Bi clenched his jaw. Damn him.

He needed to regain control.

Fast.

So, he did what he did best—he attacked first.

Dan-Bi suddenly leaned forward, his face mere inches from Jin-Seok's. The prince's smirk faltered, caught off guard.

"You are quite bold, Your Highness." Dan-Bi's voice was smooth again, steady. "One might even say… reckless."

Jin-Seok's eyes flickered with something unreadable.

Dan-Bi seized the opening.

He reached up, gripping Jin-Seok's wrist and slowly pulling it away from his jaw.

"Be careful," he murmured, lowering his tone. "If anyone were to see us like this…" His smirk deepened. "They might start questioning your intentions, not mine."

Jin-Seok stiffened.

Dan-Bi almost laughed.

Got him.

For all his persistence, Jin-Seok was still bound by the weight of his title.

The prince exhaled sharply, taking a step back. His expression was unreadable once more, but Dan-Bi could see it—

The flicker of frustration.

And something else.

Something that made Dan-Bi's pulse quicken in ways he did not want to acknowledge.

Jin-Seok adjusted his robes, his jaw tense.

"This isn't over," he warned.

Dan-Bi merely bowed, his smirk returning. "I would be disappointed if it was."

Jin-Seok turned on his heel and left, but Dan-Bi didn't move for several seconds.

His heart was pounding.

Too close.

This was getting too close.

He needed to be more careful.

Because next time—

Jin-Seok wouldn't let him slip away.

And Dan-Bi wasn't sure he would have the strength to throw him off again.
