Chapter 1

Nolan planned sixty-six romantic getaways to propose to me, all in the name of love.

On the sixty-seventh attempt, I was finally moved by his dedication.

On our first day of marriage, I prepared sixty-six "Get Out of Jail Free" cards.

We agreed that whenever he upset me, he could use one of these cards for a free pass to forgiveness.

For six years of marriage, every time he angered me because of his childhood sweetheart, I'd let him redeem one "Get Out of Jail Free" card.

By the time we reached the 64th card, Nolan began to sense something was off with me.

I stopped reminding him to be mindful of boundaries, and I no longer needed him.

I only held him back to ask when he was about to abandon me again for his childhood sweetheart.

"If you're going to see her, can I use a 'Get Out of Jail Free' card to offset it?"

Nolan's steps faltered for a moment as he looked at me helplessly.

"Use it if you want. There are plenty left anyway."

I nodded gently, watching his silhouette disappear.

He still thought his "get out of jail free" cards were endless and inexhaustible.

But little did he know, there were only two "get out of jail free" cards left.

Today is the banquet held by the company's largest business partner.

It's also the seventh day since my surgery for an ectopic pregnancy.

Nolan's childhood sweetheart Felicity smashed cake onto the clothes of the partner's representative.

Nolan's first reaction was to ask if she was okay.

Then his gaze turned to me.

"Jolene, go apologize to Mr. Williams."

I looked at him in shock.

The representative wiped the cake off his clothes, his anger visibly rising.

"So this is how your company likes to shirk responsibility! The one who should apologize is hiding."

Felicity, with tears in her eyes, leaned into Nolan's arms, as if she was the one who had been bumped.

Nolan held her in his arms, looking at me with a serious expression.

"Hurry up and apologize! What are you standing there for?"

"First, offer Mr. Williams a drink. No matter what, we can't let this partnership go wrong!"

He forgot that I haven't recovered from the ectopic pregnancy, and alcohol is strictly forbidden.

Or maybe he simply doesn't care about my health.

Felicity looked at me smugly, her eyes full of challenge.

She knew all along that Nolan would push me out front. She also knew that Nolan would definitely protect her and wouldn't let her get hurt.

Naturally, I didn't want to pay for her mistakes, but Nolan suddenly leaned in and whispered in my ear.

"A get out of jail free card."

Back then, to marry me, he personally designed sixty-six travel weddings, and I enjoyed his favoritism sixty-six times.

On the sixty-seventh time, in front of family and friends, I accepted his proposal.

And because of that, I received his promise, "Jolene, you're the person I love most in this world! If I ever betray you, may lightning strike..."

I covered his mouth with my hand before he could finish.

The sight of him kneeling on the ground and making that vow was incredibly touching, so I agreed.

I wanted to reciprocate his sixty-six proposals, so I had my friends design sixty-six "Get out of jail free" cards for me.

I told him, if these get out of jail free cards are ever really used up, I'll leave you!

Over the course of five years of marriage, Nolan kept his "get out of jail free" cards under lock and key, fearing I might use one up in a moment of anger.

That is, until his childhood sweetheart returned from overseas. In just one year, he burned through 63 cards.

This time, he was using his 64th card.

My hunched body trembled slightly as I fought through the pain in my stomach to look at the manager.

"Mr. Williams, I'm truly sorry about this incident."

The manager glanced at me, shaking his head helplessly, not really blaming me.

As I bowed, I caught sight of Nolan carefully combing Felicity's hair.

"Next time, watch where you're going. You could've gotten hurt if you'd hit the table!"

"Alright, alright. You're still the same as before."

Before?

The pain from the wound on my stomach began to spread, causing my face to turn pale.

Just a little longer.

He only had two chances left!

After the party ended, I followed behind Nolan, eager to get home quickly.

But he stood there with Felicity, looking like a perfect couple.

Nolan turned to face me, his expression cold as he slowly began to speak.
