"What do you mean?" I'm honestly baffled at this point. His face turns serious immediately.
"Well, unfortunately for you, your company security is trash. You seem to have tight security physically but through my world, you barely have any."
"That cannot be true. We have the best tech on ground and my cameras are always monitored."
"I don't know who you employed or where you got them from, but even my little sister can create a better back end security than them". I am supposed to be greatly insulted by his statement but that's the least of my worries right now. If he is saying the truth, then I'm screwed. All my work is on my laptop. If they can hack into my cameras, they can hack into my laptop.
"Thankfully, it's not too late. I have traced the IP address of the hacker. That was the horrible mistake the guy made. Like who hacks and leaves his IP address unattended to? He must have really thought you a fool to find out. No offence, of course". A scowl finds it's way to my face. I just got myself insulted my a 16 year old because of the amateur tech team my incompetent HR team hired.
"How do we know you are telling the truth?". Roberts asks looking skeptical. A small smile rests on the boy's lips.
"A valid question. Well, if you have any doubts, I have recovered camera footage the fool forgot to wipe out". He faces the laptop again and uses it for some minutes before turning it to face us.
In the footage, a slightly familiar face is sneaking into my office at night. With the precision in which he moves around my office, it's clear that he knows what he came to do. He heads to my desk and bends down. The camera can't show what he is doing but we can hear the sound of buttons being pressed.
It is obvious at this point that he has opened the safe lock without any hassle. How could he? No one else knows my password.
He brings out some papers and uses his phone to snap pictures of them. I have to admit, this was smart. If he had taken any of the papers, I would have realized immediately but taking pictures and leaving them as they were won't warrant any attention. I'm pissed as hell though.
The guy leaves my office and walks out as if he just did the most natural thing in the world. Who could he-
"That's Flord. The new intern". Robert voice answers me before I can even ask out loud. A vague image of the guy greeting me nervously in the morning pops up in my head. The son of a bitch should probably get an acting gig.
"I think I'm done here and I would like to take the day off". The boy speaks up and stands up.
"Hold on. What should I do now?". I stop him.
"As I said earlier, change your safe and laptop password. I have turned off the cameras in your office so he can't monitor you anymore. You might want to go get him any moment now because I'm sure he can sense that something has gone wrong. I guess you should get someone who can help you with the tech. Someone competent this time please". I take my time to look at him better and it suddenly dawns on me that he is one of those kids that have had to grown up way faster and hustle for their shit. I'm not even sure he is in school at the moment.
"Okay. How about I give you the job?". I rest back into my chair. His eyes light up again reminding me how much of a child he is.
"Really? You are not joking with me are you?". There's apprehension in his voice that I totally understand.
"Yes. But under the condition that you go back to school this week. Your fees will be deducted from your pay. I'm sure the 2k I just gave you can handle you for a couple of months". His face falls. Pardon me but this is the best deal anyone can get in life. What is he worried about?
"I'm sorry I can't. There will be no one to take care of my mum". I see a crack in the tough man facade he's been putting up.
"What is wrong with your mum?".
"She had an accident with my dad last year. She's the only one who survived the crash. Unfortunately, she lost both eyes and she can only see if they try a surgery. I can't afford it right now, so I just have to take care of her like that". A lone tear escapes from his eyes. He looks like someone that has had to put up a hard front to get what he wants.
"Bring me the surgery bills tomorrow but in exchange for me paying, you will have to work for me for three years. You will be paid monthly so that you can meet basic needs and wants. Deal?". Tears brim his eyes and he nods rapidly.
Present day Elvis doesn't look anything like that scrawny looking boy of two years ago. He is still lean but in a fit kind of way. He has abandoned the glasses and is now using contact lenses. He even has a little goatee now and his mouth has gotten smarter over the years.
"So what do you have for me regarding her?"
."The woman whose picture you sent is Mrs Rose Stone. Wife to Anthony Stone, the owner of Stone Constructions. They have a 6 year old daughter named Annabel. On the outside, their company seems to be doing really well but really, they are on the verge of declaring bankruptcy if they don't get a saving grace soon. I must say, Mr Stone can really conceal his secrets. Like the affair he is having with his cook". A smirk graces my face at the very wonderful information.
"Set up a meeting with Mr Stone". He nods and leaves my office.
I will avenge my daughter's pain and that's a promise.
