Chapter 9: Xiao Xuan Meets Gu Yuan
"From now on, this will be our home. I name this realm Tian Wai Tian."
At Xiao Tiance's words, the gathered clansmen broke into smiles of excitement and relief. Finally, they could leave behind their roles as cannon fodder within the Xiao Clan.
"Alright, don't just stand there gawking. Go pick your residences," Xiao Tiance said with a smile, waving them off.
"Yes, Clan Leader," the group replied before dispersing to find their homes.
Once everyone left, Xiao Tiance called Xiao Qing to stay.
"Qing'er, I noticed you seemed hesitant earlier. Is there something on your mind?" Xiao Tiance asked kindly.
Xiao Qing bowed respectfully and nodded. "Third Uncle, I wanted to ask about our future plans."
"What are your thoughts? Go ahead and share them," Xiao Tiance encouraged, his tone light.
Xiao Tiance had high hopes for Xiao Qing, the only Dou Sheng among the younger generation of their branch. One day, once everything stabilized, Xiao Qing would likely take over the clan's responsibilities. Of course, Xiao Qing would need to prove his leadership skills to earn such a position.
After a moment of contemplation, Xiao Qing spoke. "Third Uncle, you've said before that you don't believe the clan leader will succeed in his attempt to break through to the Dou Di realm. Normally, even if he fails, he wouldn't necessarily fall.
Yet you've decided to take our branch out of the Xiao Realm entirely. You haven't explained why, but I trust you have your reasons.
You're the clan's wisest strategist, and if you've chosen this path, there must be something we don't know. Regardless, I will always support your decisions."
Xiao Qing paused before continuing. "The clan leader has given you ten years. That means he won't attempt his breakthrough within that time.
During this window, the imperial clans' current balance of power will likely remain stable. These ten years will be our best opportunity to secretly grow stronger."
Xiao Tiance nodded approvingly. Xiao Qing's analysis aligned with his own thoughts. The coming decade was indeed critical. If they prepared well, they could withstand the Soul Clan's threats, even if Xiao Xuan failed.
"Good. Keep going," Xiao Tiance said, gesturing for Xiao Qing to continue.
"Yes, Third Uncle. I believe we must make two plans.
If the clan leader fails but survives with his strength intact, that would be ideal. With him protecting the Xiao Realm, no other imperial clan would dare act against us.
But if the worst happens and he falls, we must be prepared. Given the animosity between our clan and the Soul Clan, they would undoubtedly seize the opportunity to attack.
Without the clan leader, we won't stand a chance against the Soul Clan unless you, Third Uncle, can reach the peak of Nine Star Dou Sheng within these ten years."
Xiao Qing's words revealed his growing sense of responsibility, though a trace of worry lingered in his eyes.
Xiao Tiance thought to himself, Qing'er is still a bit inexperienced. While he's identified the worst case scenario, he hasn't yet figured out how to resolve it. But he's promising time and guidance will mold him into a capable leader.
After a brief silence, Xiao Tiance nodded. "You've made some valid points, Qing'er. Now, here's what I need you to do:
When we return to the Xiao Realm, discreetly approach talented clansmen. Try to persuade them to join us.
Gather the materials listed here. Have people collect as many as possible they will be vital later. Also, look for high grade medicinal herbs, magic cores, and alchemy recipes.
Send scouts to search for ancient ruins or hidden dwellings.
Investigate clues about Heavenly Flames. These flames are invaluable not just for alchemists but as formidable weapons.
Monitor Zhongzhou closely, especially the movements of the Soul Hall. Knowing the locations of their branches will be critical.
Identify gifted individuals outside the clan who lack resources. Recruit them into our peripheral forces.
Begin establishing an organization specializing in intelligence gathering and trade. Without reliable information, we'll be blind when operating in Zhongzhou."
Xiao Tiance fixed Xiao Qing with a serious look. "You can tackle these tasks simultaneously or prioritize them as you see fit. Time is short, and we must achieve as much as possible within the next ten years."
"Understood, Third Uncle. I will act immediately," Xiao Qing said with a bow.
"Good. Though the pressure is immense, it will also drive you to succeed. Endure these ten years, and our future will hold great promise," Xiao Tiance said, offering words of encouragement.
After dismissing Xiao Qing, Xiao Tiance turned his attention to preparing special training for the other seven Dou Zun experts.
Ancient Realm, Gu Yuan's Residence
Gu Yuan sipped his tea in quiet contemplation. Suddenly, he sensed an overwhelming and domineering presence approaching.
"Xiao Xuan, barging into my Ancient Realm uninvited don't you think that's a bit inappropriate?" Gu Yuan said coldly.
Moments later, Xiao Xuan's figure appeared, descending gracefully before Gu Yuan.
"Hahaha! Gu Yuan, your senses are as sharp as ever. I barely arrived, and you already detected me," Xiao Xuan said with a hearty laugh, entirely unconcerned by Gu Yuan's displeasure.
Though Gu Yuan was known for his patience, Xiao Xuan's nonchalant attitude tested his limits. Still, seeing that Xiao Xuan had no intention of causing trouble, Gu Yuan let out a cold snort and said, "Come inside."
"Thank you."
The two entered Gu Yuan's residence, where Gu Yuan casually waved a hand, summoning a steaming cup of tea for Xiao Xuan.
"Xiao Xuan, uninvited as you are, what business brings you here?" Gu Yuan asked bluntly.
Unfazed by Gu Yuan's pointed tone, Xiao Xuan chuckled. "Why so hostile, Gu Yuan? The Xiao Clan and Gu Clan have always been close. Our clans have intermarried for generations we're practically family!"
"Don't change the subject," Gu Yuan said with a scowl. "I've heard you plan to gather the bloodline power of your entire clan to attempt a Dou Di breakthrough. Is that true?"
Xiao Xuan's eyes narrowed slightly. "You seem well informed, Gu Yuan. How do you know about matters within my clan?"
Unperturbed by Xiao Xuan's displeasure, Gu Yuan smirked. "We've both lived for centuries, Xiao Xuan. Don't pretend you're surprised. We both know how the world works."
