Evelyn's POV
I gulped hard, as my throat was suddenly dry the minute I sighted him.
Nathan was here.
The room wasn't vacant like I thought it would be. He stood there, leaning slightly against the window with his hands shoved into his pockets.
He was just a few feet away from me. All of a sudden, he turned to face me.
I froze, staring at him. And he stared right back.
For what felt like minutes, neither of us spoke. We didn't say anything. Not a single word passed between us.
It felt like time had stopped, and the only sound I could hear was the continuous beating of my heart.
It was racing, thumping in my chest as if it wanted to break free.
The effects of the alcohol I'd consumed earlier disappeared in an instant, wiped away by the mere presence of him.
Funny how quickly that happened, how his presence could make everything else vanish.
Our hearts seemed to be saying what our lips refused to.
