Nathan's POV
Isabella finally got what she wanted — dragging me to Evelyn and Victor's engagement ceremony.
She didn't force me. Not really. She had a way of making things sound reasonable. And maybe she was right.
Maybe it was best to show up, to face it. But logic did nothing to ease the ache in my chest when I saw Evelyn walk in with him.
Victor.
Her hand wrapped around his arm, her head held high, smiling like this was the life she'd always dreamed of. A life I could never give her.
I swallowed hard, my throat went dry instantly. She looked radiant. Her hair was beautiful and her dress hugging her shape perfectly.
She was glowing, and I hated that I noticed every little detail.
They fit. Evelyn and Victor.
He was everything I wasn't. His rank matched hers — an Alpha's daughter, destined for power and stability.
And me? I was a warrior.
A soldier on the battlefield, with nothing to offer but blood and scars. My life was at risk, danger, death.
