CHAPTER 25 Follow Him

  Evelyn's POV

  I was tired.

Tired of eating myself up with questions that had no answers because it was obvious Nathan wasn't going to tell me anything that happened for the past seven years.

I was tired of crying every time Nathan hurt me — because that's all he'd been doing since he came back after seven long years.

There wasn't a single day he didn't cause me pain. It was either the ache in my heart or the tears burning down my cheeks, as if the ones I'd shed for him over the years weren't enough.

I mourned him for seven years. Seven. Years.

I mourned so deeply that anyone would have thought my life depended on it.

I prayed for a miracle the minute I heard he was gone. I pleaded to the moon goddess to bring him back, give him another chance.

I begged the moon goddess to make it a lie. My Nathan, the best warrior we had, couldn't be dead. He'd fought battles before — dozens of them. And he never lost. Not one.
