Evelyn's POV
I paused at Sophia's offer, I was just quiet. All I wanted initially was just to go home and hug my bed so tightly, but honestly, I think I did need that drink she was offering.
Honestly, I needed that drink.
I remembered how Nathan had snatched the glass out of my hand at the casino.
At the time, I thought it was sweet, romantic and protective even. Like he couldn't bear the thought of me drinking something in a place like that.
For a single moment, I let myself believe he cared. I thought he did.
But now, as I remembered, I only got angry the more. Foolish, Evelyn. Just foolish. That was what I was.
I shook the thought off and focused on the call.
"Evelyn? Are you still there?" Sophia's voice pulled me back to reality.
"Yes, yes… I'm here," I answered quickly, straightening my posture. "I'm in."
"You know our regular spot, right? I'll meet you there," she replied the hung up.
