Evelyn's POV
I looked at Sophia, I was breathing really fast, probably anxious, my chest was rising and falling rapidly after everything she said.
I gulped hard, feeling my throat suddenly dry. She was right. Of course, she was right. I had too many questions circling my mind like vultures over a dying animal.
No matter how much I tried to push them away, they always returned, haunting me in the quiet moments when I thought I was fine.
Sophia had brought someone—someone who might finally have answers.
Someone who could end this torment, the endless wondering, the sleepless nights filled with what ifs.
But as he stood there, just a few steps away, I felt frozen in place, unable to move forward. Cold feet.
I had assumed, at first, that Sophia was bringing a distraction—someone to make me forget Nathan, even if only for a night.
But no. She had brought someone close to him. Someone who might know the truth.
And I was terrified.
