Evelyn's POV
I hurried down the stairs, my heart beating really fast, even more than I carried my footsteps.
I wasn't supposed to be doing this. I had no reason to follow Nathan, no justification for my curiosity.
But still, I couldn't stop myself. The urge to know where he was headed at this hour burned inside me like a flame that couldn't be put out.
I was supposed to see my father tonight, but that could wait. It wasn't important.
This—whatever this was—felt more important to me.
What was Nathan doing out here? Was he meeting someone? His fiancée, maybe? Was he sneaking off for a date? But… alone?
I shook my head at myself, knowing full well it wasn't my business.
Yet, here I was, rushing down the steps as if my life depended on keeping up with him.
"Oh, Ava," I whispered to my wolf. "See what you're making us do."
"You want it too," she murmured back playfully.
