Caleb's POV
The bar wasn't exactly my favorite place, but Nathan insisted we keep an eye on it. It was quiet, low-key, and tucked away from the noise of the city — the kind of place people forgot even existed.
We'd been chasing leads since we got back, trying to piece together the truth from seven years ago.
But every time we got close, it all fell apart, slipping through our fingers like water. Still, we kept going.
We had to. Nathan was relentless, and I followed because, deep down, I needed those answers too.
I was sitting inside, nursing a glass of water, when my phone buzzed.
Nathan: Heading to the casino. Keep an eye on the bar.
I sighed, rubbing a hand over my face. He was following a lead on his own, which left me here, waiting for something — anything — to happen.
We usually did these things together, but tonight, we split up. I hated working alone.
