CHAPTER 69 Undisclosed

  Evelyn's POV

I couldn't deny it—I was surprised at the man sitting across from me. This Caleb wasn't the same jittery, sweat-drenched man I'd met the first time.

Few days ago when we first met, he couldn't even hold my gaze without looking like he was on the verge of fainting.

That Caleb had practically vibrated with nerves, barely able to string two coherent words together. And It was almost like he wanted to pee on himself.

But the Caleb sitting beside me now was calm, composed, and looking me straight in the eyes.

When I asked my question, I fully expected him to dodge it—maybe take a long sip of his drink or shift uncomfortably until the silence swallowed my words.

But he didn't. He answered. And he answered me steadily.

"I've answered you, Evelyn," Caleb said, snapping me back to the present.

"Oh," I murmured, gulping hard. His directness unsettled me, not because it was unwelcome, but because it was so unexpected.
