  Avery's POV

The rhythmic pounding of hooves against the forest floor filled the air as we rode through the dense woods. The towering trees stretched high above us, their thick canopies filtering the sunlight into scattered golden rays.

It should have been peaceful. But it wasn't. Something gnawed at the edges of my mind, a whisper of unease that refused to be ignored.
