Victoria's POV
Dominic's sharp eyes flicked toward me, his expression unreadable at first. Then, with deliberate ease, his lips curved into a knowing smile, one that seemed to say, I see right through you.
The subtle shift in his demeanor sent a shiver down my spine; he seemed to have suddenly found a new purpose, he seemed more determined, more..... ruthless. Before I could gather my thoughts, he raised his paddle without hesitation.
"Two hundred thousand," the auctioneer called, barely containing his excitement as he looked toward Dominic.
I blinked in surprise, my head snapping to the stage. The item—a delicate vintage brooch encrusted with diamonds—was beautiful but nothing I'd have guessed would catch Dominic's attention.
Before the stunned murmurs of the crowd had even settled, Dominic raised his paddle again.
"Two hundred and fifty thousand," he said, his tone calm, confident, and utterly unbothered by the gasps that followed.
