Evelyn's POV
The sun was setting into the night, creating a soothing silence as I stepped outside onto the porch. A cool breeze brushed against my skin. I needed a moment to gather my thoughts. Ethan was happy with my brother baking cakes and making a mess. I knew that Nolan would follow me but I just needed to get some air for a moment. Everything had happened so quickly. At one point I did not know if I was going to ever see my mate again. I felt guilty for Griffin and wondered if he would ever truly come back from his bad ways. He could have left me and Ethan to rot in that cave when the rogues came for us but he didn't. He put himself on the line and saved mine and my sons skin.
"Evelyn?" It was Nolan.
I turned at the sound of his voice, a soft growl that sent shivers down my spine. Nolan stood just beyond the threshold, a silhouette against the light spilling from the doorway. My heart raced as he stepped out, closing the distance between us with a few long strides.
