LUKE
I jump down from the balcony outside of Kat's room and land silently on the ground. Looking around, I make sure the coast is clear before I walk back to the barn.
Someone whistles on the front porch of the farmhouse as I cross the yard. I groan as I turn around and see Kat's father standing on the front porch. My shoulders slump over as I head back to the porch. He must have known that I was in Kat's room.
"Mr. Towers," I try to sound as respectful as I can. "How are you this evening?"
"What are you doing wandering around the house at 3:00 am?" Mr. Towers demands to know.
"I thought I heard a scream," I tell a half-truth"I was just checking the perimeter."
"That was awfully kind of you," Mr. Towers says sarcastically.
"Just trying to do my job to the best of my abilities," I respond cheerfully.
"I know what you are," Mr. Tower grumbles. "And I have an idea of what my daughter is to you. I am just asking that you don't break her heart."
