CHAPTER 38 What Are You?

  I hold the girls to my chest as more loud bangs hit the door to the gymnasium. Many of them are crying loudly despite my cries for them to remain quiet. I didn't know that I could hold so many children in my arms at once. Just then, Luke's voice yells loudly from outside.  

  "Katherine," his voice sounds desperate. "Katherine, let me in!"

  Shushing the girls one more time, I climb out from under the bleachers and grab a broom to use the handle for a weapon. Looking out of the door's window, I don't see or hear any more fighting. Wolves lie dead in the streets as people drag their bodies off into the woods. A stream of smoke is trickling above the tree line, and I fear that they are burning the bodies.
