CHAPTER 8 Jeff

  LUKE

I watch Kat bound back to the farmhouse with the sander in her good hand, and I can't help but smile. For the first time since I met her, she has a genuine smile on her lips. And as much as I want to make her rest her hand, I don't want to burst her happiness. I will need to find a way to help her so she doesn't injure her hand more.

Then I realize how much I have let this little human get underneath my skin.

'What is happening to me,' I groan in my mind. 'I shouldn't care so much about this human.'

'You care for her because she belongs to you,' my wolf replies.

'She is a human,' I remind him. 'She doesn't belong in our world.'

'You are stubborn to change. Just like the rest of your pack,' my wolf replies.

'I am not like them,' I growl at my wolf.

'Then prove it,' my wolf demands.

Pushing my wolf to the side, I begin to sort through the wood in the barn.
