CHAPTER 53 Rejection

  Standing in the backyard of the farmhouse, I grip my sister's hand in my own and give it a little squeeze. She keeps shooting awkward glances at David as the Pastor says the final prayer of the service. A peaceful wind blows through the air as my father opens the urn and releases my mother's ashes into the sky. It is what she wanted. She wanted to be set free on the wind where she grew up. David had insisted that we take her ashes to his home, but I didn't want the last memory of my mother associated with that place. Finally, we all agreed that the best place was the farm.
