CHAPTER 51 Truth

  LUKE

Standing outside of the farmhouse with my father, I prepare for the most difficult conversation of my life. How do you tell a dying mother that her daughter has been taken by rogues and it is all your fault? I knock lightly on the door and wait for someone to answer it.

Kat's dad pulls the door open, and his face is laced with anger. "What the fuck did you bring to my house?" He screams at me angrily, causing my father to growl lowly behind me.

"I don't know why they came here," I tell Kat's father. "But they have taken Kat."

The sound of metal dragging against hard floors grabs my attention, and I look around Kat's father to see her mother emerging from the bedroom down the hall. She is dragging her oxygen tank behind her and gives me a weak smile.

"They weren't coming for you," Rachel says weakly. "They were coming for me. Hello, Gunner," she says, shocking me as she addresses my father.
